iPhone 13 uses same chip as iPhone 14 basically and actually gets better battery life than the 14. It also doesn't have some of the known issues that the 14 has with its camera. It's really one of the last good phones apple made and it's going to stand the test of time better than something like a 12. Also this is almost identical performance wise of the iPhone 15. So basically. If you want a real performance bump, get the iPhone 17. But the 13-15 are virtually the same.
Make sure you stay on ios 18.6.x the new one drains battery life a lot

Any other cheaper option for T-Mobile trade in device than this for $150
Depends on what you want and what plan you are on. You can trade in an S10 to get an S25 for free on the right plan. For Apple anything 12 pro or 13 or higher I think to get max trade-in and you need to be on one of the premium plans, of course. For iPhone 18 you will likely need a 13 pro or 14 regular or higher, but who knows.

The only way to get it cheaper for a trade in is metro with a port-in, and that would be 12 months for an unlock, (which you don't need for Apple/T-Mobile trade-in).

Used (13) devices in decent condition for trade-in seem still be $200-250 and up.

So we need to buy plan separately if we want to activate or keep just keep the phone or do trade in? Mostly inclined on trade in deals

Sold the iPhone 13 I bought last year from straight talk for 300. Pretty much new only used it once for a Singapore trip. Loaded a prepaid Sintel eSIM. Don't really need a physical sim anymore since esims are ubiquitous. I like the size. Storage and 60hz sucked

Aw man. Ok I guess the 13 is less desirable? To each to own
Don't sleep on the iPhone 13. I own 2x of them which I bought for $165 each when Total Wireless had them on sale starting back in April.

i havent seen any better deal in a while. i always buy older phones for cheaper, and cheap phone plans. Right now I have a SE 3rd gen i got for $150 from walmart few years ago.

Now I want a slightly better phone which also has more lenses (mainly the 0.5x) for filming/vlogging. Think I will get this. The only better deal I've seen was when Total had it for free with a 3-month plan ($165) but that deal is butchered now.
This deal may actually be better compared to the Total Wireless one depending on how much tax will be. I actually purchased a total of 6x from Total Wireless at $165 each, lol.

For trade in deals, most will take as is, out of the box unless they specifically stated must be unlocked. To unlock for cheap, rebrand the iPhone to Tracfone and activate it on their $19.99 90-day plan, and it will automatically unlock after 60 days.

Can you explain this like I'm a barely functioning luddite.
I need a new phone for my kid and this seems like a good cheap option, but I need it to be unlocked so we can use it on our plan.

Thank you
