Staff Taking/Merging Deals

Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed a trend that has me concerned. This is that Staff/Mods seem to be claiming deals that I have posted through technicalities.

First example, I posted a deal about Playstation direct having a sale for black friday which included a post taking about the deal. This was then merged with a larger playstation post and the staff took the credit for my information and listed my entry as a comment: https://slickdeals.net/f/18820513-playstation-black-friday-deals-god-of-war-ragnarok-ps5-20-spider-man-2-ps5-30-more-free-store-pickup

Second Deal I posted was regarding the apple airpods 4 being on sale for Walmart plus...again my post was added to a staff post and credit was taken and again my entry was listed as comment - https://slickdeals.net/f/18865519-apple-airpods-4-wireless-earbuds-w-usb-c-charging-case-69-free-shipping

Third, I posted about Sonic Racing Crossworlds being on sale for Xbox, another user made a post about switch and PS5, and then staff rather than merge the deals, made their own post about PS5:

https://slickdeals.net/f/18865717-sonic-racing-crossworlds-xbox-series-x-ps5-30-walmart

https://slickdeals.net/f/18868306-sonic-racing-crossworlds-nintendo-switch-game-30?src=SDSearchv3&attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3AFalse%7CSearch%3AType%3Anormal%7CSearch%3ASort%3Arelevance%7CSearch%3AHideExpired%3Afalse

https://slickdeals.net/f/18868882-30-sonic-racing-crossworlds-playstation-5-at-walmart?src=SDSearchv3&attrsrc=Thread%3AExpired%3AFalse%7CSearch%3AType%3Anormal%7CSearch%3ASort%3Arelevance%7CSearch%3AHideExpired%3Afalse

What is going on? It seems like the staff are trying to hoard posts for themselves and being selective on how deals get merged.

While having your deal merged is not pleasant, it helps keep Hot Deals organized, and gives credit to whomever posted first. SDers hate duplicate deals! But we don't merge unless we have to since if it's not really the same deal it's the opposite of organization and giving credit where it's due.

In the first two cases it looks like you posted after the staff posters, in the third there were multiple items so your post was overlooked, but now the staff post was merged into yours. Sometimes deals are complicated (or we miss something oblivious), so feel free to report the deal so we can double check. Posting, voting, commenting, and organizing deals is one big team effort so even if your deal does get merged if's still part of the Slickdeals project.

This is just going to encourage me not to post. How is it that staff get to post deals in the first place ? In the first example they were completely separate vendors, the staff member made a decision to merge deals from multiple vendors and take the credit....how is that fair to everyone else that contributed?

Staff members post so the site always has a good supply of deals, but they don't personally merge posts into their own deals. In the specific example of your PlayStation deal, Discombobulated's post had been updated with the playstation.com blog link and general sale info the day before you posted, though it was primarily a GameStop deal, with the goal of making a useful collection of PlayStation deals not already posted. It was probably not obvious when you posted that the playstation.com announcement was already on the site, but if you had posted first you probably would expect latecomers to be merged into your deal. They'd be at least mildly annoyed at wasting their time, just like staff members are when their deals are merged. We realize it will always seem unfair when staff is involved, but there are some practical obstacles to retiring staff posts if someone else posts, which will hopefully be figured out in the future.
