lol. They are probably the most ethical retailer around.

Want a loophole? Get a friend to buy you some Costco gift cards, smallest available denomination (which used to be $25 per card). Your gift card is now your entry pass. When you want to buy something, show the checkout person and ask them to ring you up as a non-member (used to be member 99). Pay using your card and they'll let you use a different card to pay the remainder.

It is a members only club... how else are they supposed to verify your membership?

All the Costcos near me have your picture show up on the kiosk where you scan your card.
That's actually creepy.

Here for the savings. Stayed to read comments of people complaining about showing their members card rather than deals they've found to use on.

BJs doesn't check your card upon entry. Your card is verified when you pay. I do agree it's kind of petty to complain about showing your card on entry.

What about the 8 people in front of you that all searching fort their cards while it is 30 degrees outside with a 20 mph wind? What about at checkout when they split their order up into 8 separate orders because they can no longer share their card? Then they get to the door and have 8 different receipts checked.......COSTCO blows.
You may not be Costco's intended demographic, therefore the friction is acceptable. This will make you disinterested in them while improving the situation at the store as it was intended.

I 100% agree. I ask myself all the time why am I paying $130 annual membership and being treated so bad? Not only is the in store experience terrible but I ask myself why is COSTCO so far behind in technology? It was only this year they provided the ability to check instore inventory via their app (and it ain't always accurate). Why do they off no curbside pickup and force me to pay the overhead for their cashiers and baggers? This doesn't sound like a company that truly cares about its customers. Also why are the online prices frequently higher than the instore prices? Finally, what really pisses me off is the constant hide and seek they like to play in store. I want to buy a loaf of bread and not play where's Waldo with the bread. Ask employees where things are and they don't know either because it is moved so much.

Can't stand Costco. Hate the way they throw an absolute fit over showing your card to get in.
Try Walmart. Most manufacturers make special Walmart versions of their products.

Not really.

If you workout 6 times a week, and use 2 scoops per day, it will be gone in a year.

So even if you use 1 scoop per day, it will take 2 years at the same frequency per week.
You seem to overestimate the average SD user

Costco seriously feels stuck in the past. They survive mainly because their loyal members will buy every damn shit and return it , no questions asked !! A few things desperately need fixing: but they won't !!
1. Scan-and-Go is a must. The checkout lines are ridiculous — this would solve half their congestion instantly.
2. Scanning IDs at the door feels like a membership-inflation tactic. They know families share cards, but instead of solving it properly, they just double down on checks.
3. The website is ancient. And charging $4.99 just to pick up an item in-store? Wild.
4. Delivery is a mess. They offloaded it to Instacart, and together it becomes a price-hike machine — higher item prices, delivery fees, and tips stacked on top.
5. Electronics are often older or stripped-down models. Manufacturers treat Costco like a clearance channel for outdated junk pieces.
6. The fresh sections need help. Deli, groceries, dairy… the handling sometimes feels more chaotic than hygienic. esp in socal !

It is a 500b market cap enterprise but behaves like just another big box retailer !
