I just came back from HEB store. It was like a zoo, super crowded.

The fee for AMEX and MC is $6.95. Make sure you grab $100 fixed-amount cards as the variable-amount cards have $7.95 fee. The fee for Vanilla Visa is $7.95 even for $100 fixed-amount cards.

I used self-checkout and it was a long process. In my HEB store (not sure if it applies everywhere), each gift card transaction can only allow $212 total amount. I had to do 3 separate transactions since 2 prepaid credit cards would have $214 total amount. In addition, each transaction requires manager approval. I felt so apologetic for holding the line for so long. I was told using cashier checkout would be faster when buying all 3 prepaid credit cards.

I checked the balance for all 3 prepaid credit cards. Again, I was not given an option to register the cards with my name or address. As most online merchants require matching addresses between billing address and card address, most likely they can only be used in store.

Just FYI, not trying to discount the value of this deal, I was not able to use any of these 3 cards online from the similar deals at HEB in the last 2 years. I was not able to add them to Paypal either. They seem to be for pay in-store only. I did call the customer services and was told that it works online only when the merchant does not require matching addresses between the billing address you typed in during the checkout and the address registered with the card. None of these 3 cards gave me an option to register my address with the card.

Quote from FancyFog4450 :
There's no tax because the tax is charged when you buy something with the amazon or ebay or whatever gift card and there's no fee because nobody would ever buy one when cash is always better than a cash equivalent gift card.
Lol I had never seen someone making this remark, this has always been the case for gift cards for any store since always

Literally the ONLY reason I dragged my feet into a Brick Mortar this year Black Friday weekend!

Thanks HEB for taking care of my family's groceries for the next month or so! Yes, there's no such thing as free lunch, But surely there's such thing as FREE groceries!
