Warning: I bought the wireless 8bitdo controller and after 1.5 years of ownership the battery fully died and will not charge. Only way to use it is to plug it into a long USB-C chord. Company would not help with replacement or offer any real help other than "to bring it to a repairman" which was comical. The battery is also not a simple replacement - it is embedded deep in this item. This controller is a piece of junk that will turn into a wired controller to be operable long term. Buyer beware...

I long for the day all products use replaceable 18650's.

Internet said you can technically solder in a "951860 3.7V 1000mah" battery if you're willing to take apart the controller. ($5-10 battery)

18650's aren't really considered safe enough for consumers in many instances. They should be, but people are not very smart.

Fair point, but when you're comparing an 18650 to the consumer serviceability and safety of the lipo pouch battery this thing uses, it's basically a safety cell.

Can't easily bend or puncture a 18650 like you can a pouch cell.

fyi this is a GREAT beginner project into DIY repair, I 1000% recommend you do it for the satisfaction of fixing your own product.
