OT It even has a fan but app controlled. I wonder if I can rip it out and use w/ battery?
I have the newer version of Genie with WiFi built-in (I would assume this acts the same), and it connects to Home Assistant. I also connected it to SmartThings.
However, I found that connecting to Samsung SmartThings is more reliable than the Genie integration for some reasons (A few times Genie showed unavailable, while it's still online on my SmartThings), so I decided to just use SmartThings

I'm currently using Home Assistant (via MQTT) solely as a proxy for my OpenHAB instance to control my garage door.
Genie has actually published a new Python SDK for it as well: https://github.com/Genie-Garage/a...python-sdk (don't get too excited, though -- you need an API key to use it and so far they've only provided one to their partner Home Assistant and don't currently have a way for anyone else to request one - I emailed one of the devs and asked).
My experience included:
1. Random door opening triggers. Seems like a slight inconvenience with the ability to control open / close with the app, right? See #2.
2. Buggy app: connectivity errors, login authentication error (random sign outs), and non functioning open/close control.
The last straw occurred when my garage camera picked up motion activity while I was on vacation. I pulled up the clip, and my door opened by itself. I attempted the app and tried to close it, but had a "sorry, can't connect right now" error. I had to call my neighbor to assist.
TLDR: unreliable to the point that I reverted back to the 60yo technology that is the RF transmitter.
I do not have experience with it yet, but bought a bunch of their relays on thanks giving to try them out.
Hopefully someone in this forum will confirm if Shelly works with garage door.
