The Books contain some of the same characters, but are quite different from the movie series sharing the same name. For example, in the books the Vikins have always lived with and trained the dragons -- and Toothless can talk.

These books are great, by the way. If you have a 7-12 year old that hasn't read this series and is into fantasy it would be a great gift.

Will my 8 yr old tolerate this? Seems like if it doesnt have pictures he has a hard time staying connected
