You can also consider using moca adapters to connect the nodes of your existing network as well to improve stability and network speed.
If its security updates - just disable remote access and you can make a cheap opnsense or router that supports opnwrt in front of the orbi.

They are the shadiest scammyiest company out there
They use literal Indian scammers for their tech support
Infact they are directed to behave like that from the top.
I got a Linksys from Microcenter
Back in the day, like when wireless N became the new thing and they were just being acquired by Cisco.
I called tech support and they applied big pressure sales tactics and refused to help me with my issue other than to try and upsell me on the higher model that was not really any better than the one I had.
Saar please you must but now this is being special direct price and price will increase of you do not order right now.
I ended up getting it and when I went to MC to return the other one I called for support on I saw that the "special price" was actually $25 more than it was selling for at MC.
Such a scummy shady company
I ended up returning them both and will never do business with them again.

If you want a simpler solution you could get the Netgear MK72. That is a mesh system that should work well when the units are connected together via wired ethernet. If you need more coverage you could then connect your existing Orbi RKB40 satellites via ethernet cables to turn them into wired Access Points as you mentioned.
The Netgear RAX50 states it covers up to 2500 square feet; MK72 covers up to 3000 square feet. So the mesh system (MK72) seems a bit more powerful. Probably because you have two (router and mesh node) instead of just a router (RAX50). I think it's a good idea to stick with WiFI 6 for now. WiFi 6E could be good too if there is a nice price. WiFi 7 I would definitely avoid for now as it's overpriced in my opinion. Good luck.

I love the interface but it sucks and is very unstable and is constant problems.
All of the special advertised features had to be turned off or disabled to even make it work at all.
I have the AC5300 so it's old and needs to be replaced
Not sure if I will go with Asus again.
Merlin FW made it work slightly better but now even that has ended support
I have no idea what to get next.
I was looking at the eero but not Being able to go to a router and get into it is kind of a deal breaker for me.
Not really sure what to get.
I was looking at the Asus mesh systems but there areots of complaints and bad reviews.
My router had good recit and it still is trash

Yup I also have concerns about ASUS WiFi 7 mesh systems and stability. You could try searching Reddit for router info to see what people say there. You could post to r/HomeNetworking to see what folks recommend: https://www.reddit.com/r/HomeNetworking/ Good luck.
Getting 400-700mbps in the house via a 1 gigabit wireless connection is good. Is this your system? https://www.netgear.com/support/product/rbk40 If so the RBK40 = AC2200 (WiFi 5). That product is not receiving any more firmware updates, per Netgear's website. Is this why you are thinking of upgrading?
