It's worth noting this isn't the same as typical fiber internet - it's "fiber-powered". Namely, from their own details,
Xfinity Internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable
One drawback to this is upload and download speeds are not symmetric - the headline advertised speed is the download speed, but upload speeds are typically significantly lower. For example, looking at the Broadband Facts of the 1 Gig plan in my area, they specify typical download speed at 1170 mbps and typical upload speed at 117 mbps. In the past in different areas, I've seen advertised typical upload speeds as low as 20-40 mbps.

That may be perfectly fine for many people, in which case this is a good deal. But make sure to take a look at the upload speed for your area and confirm that it's fast enough for your needs.

Yes don't log in initially, then look up your address, then choose I'm moving here as a new subscriber. Then contie towards the end and on the screen where it has you sign up for an account, choose login instead. But make sure you cancel your old account, and return equipment. Otherwise you'll be billed for two accounts concurrent.

I'm a current customer and my plan has that bank autopay discount too. But I can still manually pay with a credit card every month, with no surcharge, and the discount remains.

Yes and no. The new modem and 2 wireless TV boxes arrived and set up fairly easily. Internet service is just as good as before. However... We noticed the new wireless TV boxes weren't quite as responsive as the wired ones, and the live TV pause function doesn't last nearly as long as it did before. I called to ask about it, and the US-based agent agreed and said he would send 2 wired boxes to replace them. He also said the Ultimate package just changed to Premier, which means a slight increase in cost BUT goes from 20hrs cloud recording to 300hrs AND includes one TV box for no charge. New equipment to arrive Monday. Then yesterday morning I realized we're missing some channels. NatGeo Wild, Science, and others say "subscription required". I spent over 2 hours on the phone with 4 agents yesterday trying to resolve it. 3 were clueless and actually made things worse (apparently one downgraded me from Premier to Core). The 4th was in Retention and was actually making progress including getting all services corrected and sent me the order text confirmation when the call DROPPED. Same channels still missing. I decided to wait until I get the wired boxes tomorrow to see if that somehow fixes it. If not, I'll be calling again until I can get a US-based agent. My wife is questioning whether all this hassle is worth saving $64/mo.
Thanks for taking the time to provide all the details! I am going to stick with the $65/mo 5 year lock plan I got just under 2 months ago, and had no changes to the Ultimate plan and 2 wired tv boxes that I have had for years. Not worth the hassle to save $15/months, but your savings would be way more significant. When this deal first came up for new customers, I called Retention for US based agent. Got put on hold while they researched issue, and the call dropped. Called again, US agent, same deal got put on hold and call dropped. Neither attempted to call back even though they had my number. My wife would be doing way more than "questioning" related to the $15/mo savings.I ported out 5 lines from Xfinity Mobile a few weeks ago, unrelated to this deal, and am even happier about that now given how much further their Support has gone downhill. 34+ year Diamond customer

Calling it "questioning" was being polite. It was more like "just put it back like it was before, dammit!" 😆

Your only option is to get a wife and sign her up. jk.

Just read through the comment section. Fellow SDers have pointed out detailed steps to get it done. But the basic idea is:
  • Don't log in to the Xfinity account initially.
  • Look up your address, then select "New Customer" and choose this plan (1Gig/$50/month). Also, make sure to enter Promo code MC50 (Virtual GC $50) or Gift100 (virtual GC $100), whichever works.
  • Continue forward until you are on the create an account step. Look carefully, and you will see "Sign in" to an existing account in there. Click the sign in and continue forward. and then submit the order. You should be good to go.
  • Once submitted, and you get confirmation of a new order, wait till you receive your new equipment.
  • Make sure to call/chat to cancel your existing account.
Most of the comments said they just used the name of someone else living at the house. This is why I asked. I also have cable TV service that I would cancel at the same time. Not sure if I have to return the cable card they won't let me use anymore.

Even though the Cablecards are free, I am sure they would want it returned if you are cancelling. It would be listed as another piece of equipment on your account and would probably be a fee for unreturned equipment. I have had one for 8+ years and so far it is still working. I ran into this thread on the Xfinity Forums recently related to cablecards: https://forums.xfinity.com/conver...59ea31e0bb

If you don't mind keeping two Xfinity ID, you can use different email, phone number or sign-in with another existing Xfinity ID when checkout.
That may avoid issue which some people said using same info/ID may bring up a screen to verify Date of Birth which some people can't get pass without calling Xfinity service. But many don't have that issue and get pass the verification just fine.

You don't have to activate the 1 year free mobile line to get the $50/month internet price.
How do u not activate the line? It seems to be a required part of the bundle

I was sent a notice in late 2024 that Comcast would no longer replace cablecards, nor would they do any new activations. Less than six months later the HDMI port on the Tivo was fried in a lightning storm. My previous experience is that a replacement Tivo requires a new activation of the cablecard.

I wasn't willing to spend the money for another Tivo and gamble that I would be able to get my cablecard working. The old Tivo was plugged in for a long time after the lightning hit, and the red recording light was coming on when new episodes of shows were airing so I don't think the cablecard itself got fried.

I am existing customer. Following the steps, I successfully activated the new plan yesterday. (had to chat with Xfinity agent to get the Xfinity modem/router activated), also had call to confirm the old account was cancelled.
Now one issue is: when I login with my xfinity id, seems I can still only see my old account (with old monthly pay), and when I tried to click the xfinity rewards, it is saying that I am not eligible for the rewards, which is very interesting.... It seems my new plan didn't link to my xfinity id?
Anyone has similar issue? and how to fix this?
Thanks

The other thing I noticed was that after switching to this 1Gig using my existing account, I still lost all the digital movies that were redeemed as part of the rewards giveaway.

Is the included modem/router ok? I see an upgrade option to one with wifi 6.

I have activated the internet service on Friday. I do not want to activate peacock subscription or 1 yr free mobile line. Activation is required as per the terms or can we skip those activations?
