Xfinity Internet is powered by fiber and connected to premises by coaxial cable
One drawback to this is upload and download speeds are not symmetric - the headline advertised speed is the download speed, but upload speeds are typically significantly lower. For example, looking at the Broadband Facts of the 1 Gig plan in my area, they specify typical download speed at 1170 mbps and typical upload speed at 117 mbps. In the past in different areas, I've seen advertised typical upload speeds as low as 20-40 mbps.
That may be perfectly fine for many people, in which case this is a good deal. But make sure to take a look at the upload speed for your area and confirm that it's fast enough for your needs.

Here's someone that was offered 300mbps upload: https://forums.xfinity.
The current offered 2gig plan appears to be 250mbps, which is greater than 100mbps. (that's not ftth)
at one point increased upload required xi fi complete, so it wasn't a simple on or off, it was certainly plan dependent at one time, this shows it was even feature dependent.
Don't believe me? Here it is from a comcast rep: https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_...unli
they specifically say xi fi complete (which comes with unlimited data) only works with comcast modem. So yes you can lose your unlimited data if you don't use their modem depending on your plan.
My advice to everyone, go negotiate your services at least once a year when new offerings come out and see what they offer. It's stupid, but the rate at which Comcast is struggling to keep up with the changing times is asinine. Again, said it numerous times already, been in this industry 15+ years and have seen a lot. Comcast is very much behind in the times with certain aspects of their business and they're struggling to keep up. They got caught wiht their pants down thinking "we're a monopoly with no real competition" and now that's not true in a good part of the nation and they're scrambling to setup proper retention, loyalty, and value statements for their base.

You don't need any hack or excuse. Just sign up even if you have service at the address. Several people mentioned that their existing account is showing this offer. Mine didn't show. I just signed up using another family member's name.
So I recently cancelled my (1) gig Xfinity service in my name and we ordered service in my spouses name for the (5) year price lock deal for $65 per month and we were given an XB8 which has worked out well for us. This was about two months ago. Fast forward and now I see Xfinity is offering the (5) year price lock with (1) gig for $50 per month. $15 over 5 years is like $900 so that's not thing to me.
Reading through the thread it seems that some folks have been able to sign up for the new plan either under their own name (existing account) or under someone one else in the household. I'm open to either option but ideally I would like to not have to mess around with returning our existing XB8 and picking up and installing a new XB8. It sounds like some people who signed up and had existing Xfinity service now have two accounts at the same address so not sure how well that will work out in the end.
I haven't logged into my spouses account yet to see if the $50 deal is available even though they currently have the $65 deal. I guess I can do that and if the $50 deal is available for her maybe I'll try and order service under her name again? I would think since it's been a couple of months since I cancelled my (1) gig service that the $50 deal is probably available to me so that's an option too. Again ideally I would like to just get my spouse on the $50 deal without having to swap out XB8's etc. so I kind of waiting to see what everyone is doing in this situation....
Best advice, go to a store and get them to update things. Reps on the phone suck, period, so stop calling. Store reps are usually a bit better though even they are sucking lately (I have 2 open work orders to re-bury my service line in my yard and no one in months has shown up.
