"Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Apple TV is available in the original 4:3 aspect ratio in standard definition (SD), as opposed to the unpopular 16:9 HD remaster. The SD version is the original version fans prefer because it maintains the intended framing and tone, though it lacks the higher resolution and clarity of a newer remaster."

You don't want the "HD" Widescreen version. Horrible AI "remaster". Would love to see them do a proper HD remaster if done right, this isn't it. I'll be sticking with my ripped DVD's to my Plex server. Buffy is worth a blind buy if you haven't watched this great show already!

Thanks, just bought it and it is indeed the 4:3 aspect ratio. I now own the widescreen fandango version and this.

No ...but also yes?
Seasons 1-3 are in 4:3.
Seasons 4-7 are in 16:9 widescreen. NOT the HD remaster (still in SD!), more like the sides weren't cropped to 4:3. Everything is framed so that no relevant information exists in the far left or far right of the screen.
If I'm remembering correctly, this was an odd quirk of the UK DVDs that must've carried over to Apple TV (and to Hulu as well).

I really wish they would do a full remaster with correct color timings and better framing.

Buffy remaster wasn't great for a few reasons, but they did make it from the 35mm film, very sloppily, that why sometimes the lighting was different and the wide aspect had framing gaffes with Mic poles, etc.
AI is awful and going to boil the seas, and kill more children, but this is one of the cases where it's not at fault
