Yeah, I think I'm going to wait until a V2 of this product.

I'm still salty with Google for dropping the Nest Protect. They're famous for dropping hardware- makes me not want to invest in their ecosystem anymore.

Yeah, the false alarms reported on reddit aren't giving me confidence.

I don't understand why it's so hard for these manufacturers to make a good hardwired unit that does pathway. Don't a ton of homes have hardwired detectors these days? Battery just as backup. Pathlight wouldn't be a drain on a hardwired unit.

Rolling the dice on these to compliment existing Nest Protect some detectors intermixed with non. Realize the safety risk of having non-compatible, hence want to unify, and hoping even if not AS GOOD, still better than most.

I do wish someone sold them at a discount for one, since I need an odd number of them. It kills me to pay another $129 to First Alert when they are 2 for $159 at Costco.

Don't buy these unless you'd like to constantly wake up in the middle of the night to false alarms. Ended up getting rid of them when we (and the FD) couldn't get two to stop chirping. The app sucks too. Send me your $160 if you want to waste your money in peace, I promise I won't bother you ever.

First alert Smoke detectors are garbage. I bought them about 6 months ago from Costco and not only did they go off when I took a shower, they went off randomly in the middle of the night or day and wouldn't stop unless I took them down and disabled the battery, making them permanently useless.

I returned them to Costco and bought a different brand and have had no problems since.

I ripped out 5 Nest Protects yesterday (3 were end of life in a few months, all continuously fell offline randomly and were simply unavailable for smart features) and replaced all with X-Sense SC07-MR combo CO/smoke detectors with a smart base station.

The X-Sense combo detectors seem to have very good reviews, and a IMO a very cheap service to bypass the user and call emergency services ($50/year or $5/month) if desired. I went through the setup which was very thorough and I'm highly confident it'll just work. You can even customize how long the app/system waits for no user response before it calls emergency services down to 10 second intervals. There's a cheaper option that allows users to initiate the dispatch through the app as well. Neither is required for smart/app functionality, just if you want auto/quick emergency services dispatch and fee waivers for false dispatches.

The X-Sense detectors also claim a 3-5 year battery life with 1 CR123A lithium battery. This to me is insane compared to each Nest taking 6 AA lithium batteries that maybe lasted 2-3 years for me. I get that offloading the network connectivity is why the detectors last, but the setup and functionality of the base station and all detectors was flawless and I love this setup. Like Nest, they all alarm if there's a triggering event and each detector PLUS the base station can silence said event.

With a coupon code, I got 5 combo detectors and the base station for $149.60. Complete no brainer to switch for me and I'm excited to have done so.

Why can't First Alert just SAY if one of their products is ionizing or photoelectric. Even with the package in front of me in the store it was difficult to tell.

BTW photoelectric is much better and ionizing.

Also also check the date of your alarms before replacing them. I've been able to get free replacements if they're within their 10 year period.

Sounds like a good option. Too bad I already have some of the First Alert. I do not see any compatible X-Sense WIRED versions? Do you know if X-Sense has similar smart detectors that sync with their wireless variety, since my system has 2 wired and 3 wireless?

Only seeing 2 hardwired options that can interconnect but not with app/smart functionality.
