Yeah, I guess they didn't like that I pointed out that this product is from a Chinese company with a website that doesn't work and wants you to install their shady app with access to your Google account. They didn't like that I suggested using a Fire tablet with Fire Toolbox instead so you can install whatever Play store apps you want and turn that into the same thing as this essentially.

Getting that ref $ is more important that the user safety of SDers apparently, or giving you control over the devices that we pay money to own. Capitalism go brrrrrrr

The photos require subscription, the recipe feature and meals, rewards and the magic scan feature as well. The magic scan was what initially sold me. You can upload a doc of a full to-do list or calendar date list and it auto populates it into the calendar on the set days. My little one for his preschool we got a paper with the full year calendar in just a list date line items, so would have been ideal. But realized its behind the paywall unfortunately.

I have several of these digital frames from 10 inch to 32 inch versions. All most all of them are hackable and run android 4.4 through android 10. Best deals are buying them from amazon resale when they have additional coupons. The best ones I have found are from company called 'Changing Touch' as it has a battery and runs android 14 with google playstore.

Any reviews/opinions on this vs the skylight
I have the skylight - honestly surprised it took someone so long to knock this off. The Skylight software isn't that great, or anything to rave about. I wouldn't hesitate to try this at the price. Who knows? The software and UI might even be better. And Skylight wants you to pay for every single thing.

I bought the big one because I do like the idea of a family calendar and we don't let our kids use phones until high school.

Can I block outbound communication to prevent sending my personal data to their server or who-knows-where? Will it still work or does it need an outbound connection to run?

Just make certain your router, or DNS server (pi-hole, ControlD, etc.), blocks all communication in/out to China *.cn. Unfortunately, if you have to use their mobile app to link to your Google Calendar, unless you run VPN on your phone at all times, you won't be able to block them from siphoning your data back to their C&C servers.

I am planning to create a brand new family calendar either on Outlook or Gmail, and use it only for the calendar sync on this device to reduce the data loss. Bought 15".

Code works for the biggest one too, 21.5" and brings it down to $191 .. that's tempting.

My Alzheimer mom has a separate google calendar since I don't put her appointments on mine. She cannot remember where or what the calendar/task look like a lot of time so she cannot open it. And even if she could, she couldn't really read or change from week display to day vice versa. She asks me a million times a day about her doctor appointments which change and move around every so often. So I maintain her calendar on my phone but I don't want her to ask me. My son also need to help with appointment sometime but I couldn't get a fix on his work schedule. He could also see what his brother's appointment look like and can help when the time matches. This is my use case. Before her Alzheimer, I didn't have any use case. "duke5150;180968506 i have a printer and a stapler." stapler and paper don't work well for me LOL
This is exactly how my mother . I remote manager a skylight but she has a hard time navigating it.

Please tell me more. Does the screen stay on the current week/day/month once selected? We will probably display 5 calendars total, is the 15" too small? I'll tell her what her color is, she is able to use YouTube on iPad, are they a lot different?

What do you recommend for an 80 year old independent senior that lives alone to use? I want something that family members can remotely view to see what her medical appoints are and set reminders for them.
Honestly? Skylight. We have one and it is great. I get nobody likes subscriptions but when I emailed it a copy of my kid's school calendar and it dropped all of the holidays, teacher workdays, etc into the calendar I was hooked.

I have a similar problem with a family member. I run a separate Google calendar for him and he has an echo device that has access to the Google calendar, and all he needs to do is say "Alexa what are my appointments today", or "this week". We can also manage zoom appts over the echo show, although it is not the easiest things to do as I have to "drop in" on him with my echo show and then direct the zoom call towards the echo device. I wish he could use zoom directly on the echo device.

Awesome device. Good thing calendars don't exist on phones and tablets. Imagine having all that portability and having that calendar with you wherever you go. But nope...calendar apps don't exist.
