For anyone on the fence for this one, don't be! At this price it's a no-brainer. This is easily an above $1K system. Have had a previous year version of this and it has adequately replaced my full HT system for over a year now. My full system is still there waiting for me to hook it back up, but just haven't had the time to rerun wires and setup back receiver, power amp, etc when this wireless system is a good substitute for a fraction of the price. I'd recommend this Q990 at this price in a heartbeat.

Got this over Black Friday - with a little EQ tweaking it sounds pretty good (never as good as a true high end surround system). I give it a B.

I was going to buy the JBL Bar 500 MK2 for $450. Is this worth the extra $170?

I bought this for $688 three weeks ago from here.
I know people praise it, but I wouldn't buy it again even at a cheaper price.

Voices still sound tinny and boxy and there's almost no left/right separation. The base and atmos height effects and surround sound effects are very good which is why it gets praise, but 80% of the important sound is dialog and front speaker content and it still sounds like a small plastic speaker to me.

Any one of my dedicated speakers in the $200-$300 price range make that front 80% of audio content sound miles better than this bar. I cross compared with a pair of Infinity R 162, Klipsch RP 150s and 160s, and a pair of Emotiva Airmotiv B1+

I'll still keep and use the bar as it looks nicer under an 85 inch TV, and I don't have room on the sides of my TV for a pair of speakers, but the upstairs living room will keep the full surround sound system and it's not even close for me.
My take is a bit different on this - basically it depends on how fancy your traditional setup is.

I have a 5.1 theater setup with a big Klipsch RP-450C center and decent sub and surrounds, driven by a Onkyo TX-NR6100, connected to a projector, and another setup with a Samsung Q990C connected to a 100" QLED.

Stereo separation is better on the 5.1 theater setup, but the Q990's Atmos adds a ton of immersion in some media, which the 5.1 of course lacks. The RP-450C is better as a center, but the Q990C is totally acceptable.

I did spend a while tweaking settings on the Q990C, as part of which I boosted the volume on the rear surrounds pretty high.

Overall, if you can set up a 5.1.4 / 7.1.4 system in your space and have an unlimited budget, you can of course achieve better results, but the Q990 has a humongous form factor and cost advantage that's hard to overlook for something other than a dedicated theater room.

can anyone explain how this soundbar system works? i already have a 5.1 system but its all in ceiling speakers and sounds ok. does this soundbar just go directly into my hdmi for my tv so i don't need my receiver anymore? if so, does that mean i have to run all my wires for all my devices to the tv? seems horrible
You can think of the Q990's main body as being all of the front speakers plus an integrated 2 input / 1 output AV receiver, with the sub and surrounds connected wirelessly.

You can either (1) run your sources to the Q990, which then passes through the audio and video to your TV via eARC (over an HDMI link to your TV), (2) run your sources to the TV, which then passes audio to the Q990 via eARC (over HDMI), or (3) combine #1 or 2 with an HDMI switch if you need more inputs.

The choice of 1/2/3 dictates how you switch between inputs. I use #2 (sources go to TV, and just one HDMI to Q990) because my TV inputs have more capabilities than the Q990C's HDMIs. But if you have a ton of sources, you'll need to either deal with an HDMI switch or just stick with a full traditional AV receiver.

Code works for me. I would suggest download Shop Samsung app and properly sign into your EDU/EPP account first (mine is EPP). Once signed in, click on the link here, confirm price without discount first then apply coupon code listed and you'll see the $68.90 coupon applied.

My break down is as follows:
$1999.99 retail price (ridiculous I know)
- $500 promotional discount (on sale promotion)
- $811 workplace savings (EDU/EPP discount)
- $68.90 (promo code)
= $1379.90 (total savings)

Comes out to be $620.09 + tax!

This is the best price you can get for this line of soundbar speakers. Sure you can buy a real home theater sound system for cheaper or more and have it properly setup and calibrated, but not everyone has the effort and the experience needed for that. So for simplicity and pricing (a little bit of both worlds), this would be time to pull the trigger.

I got mine (same model) in March for $800+tax and I could of got this one for $200 less, but absolutely no regret and enjoy the surprising sound effects coming from all corners of my living room during movie watching and series binging with this soundbar surround speakers. Just keep in mind room layout, position of the surround speakers, source of the sound being played, among other, all plays a role in getting that true experience. There's definitely no one speaker fits all with a given set budget, but the bang for the bucks for a soundbar type of quality surround speakers, I would say this the one. BTW the height speakers is still very minor even on this semi high-end surround soundbar, so I wouldn't expect too much from that (it does helps though, at times).

nice so basically run all my hdmi wires to the back of the tv and then the one hdmi to the soundbar

I just got this and am not impressed at all.

Sounds like a $500 speaker setup only

I think a real center channel, 2 book shelf speakers and some rear satellites + a sub sound 10x better

I am replacing a 13+ year old 5.1 a/v system and am displeased with this.

Sounds very hollowish

Just ordered a set. Coupon code worked fine.

Had been eyeing prior versions of these for the past 3-4 years due to everyone always raving about them. Time to finally put them to the test!

Even with doing a space after coupon, it finds a coupon discount code but says for another item gibberish/saved for something else like what the other comments are saying. This being from the EDU account.
