Usually its the 14" on sale and everyone says its too small. How is this for a first time homeowner with a small yard? I would like to be able to mulch leaves onto my yard too

I have the 14" version. It is indeed small but sufficient for a small yard which I spent the past 2 years "mowing" with a string trimmer. Takes about the same time with the 14" mower but it leaves a much better result with consistent height and less "mess." Blades produce a cleaner cut with less damage to the grass. The main issue I have with the included 2x4.0Ah batteries is they are not quite enough to last and torque wise they struggle a bit in thicker / deeper areas. Already have a ton of M18 Milwaukee batteries so might get a set of battery adapters for it. The cut height is adjustable. 14" version maxes out at 3.5" and I wish this could be set higher like the 4" setting on the 17" model.
FWIW, the mulching mode on the 14" model works good and left far less visible trimmings compared to a string trimmer.

I have had this exact same model for the last 5 years. It's still going strong. I had bought this on eBay back then for 240.

This is a great deal. Mulching works good but keep in mind that it's not a side discharge mower. It mulches in place which can mean that lumps of grass get deposited. I usually go over those portions twice.

The batteries still hold a good charge after this time. Bagging works well. I should mention that I have a small yard as well and this size is perfect for it. It can however easily handle a somewhat bigger size too without breaking a sweat.

Looks like Walmart, Lowes, Target, BestBuy, etc. may all have the same price - YMMV.

Had mine for roughly 4 years and surprisingly still running strong.
Perfect for a small yard. Yes it small, so takes a few passes but it's incredibly light. Easy to hang up and also great starter to teach kids how to mow.
May have to charge it halfway through depending how dense/deep your grass and yard size, but I recommend it.

Depends on what you mean by "small" yard. Depending on the square footage and how thick your grass is you will likely need to change batteries once.
The other issue I have found with this mower is that it's not nearly as powerful as a gas mower, so if you go over some bumps or very thick grass, it will kill the motor. Its easy to re-start at the push of a button but its still an annoyance that going over thick grass or bumps will kill the motor. I guess that's probably how all electric mowers are.

This is a solid mower. Definitely recommend getting an extra set of batteries so you don't have to worry about them dying. Use it on a half acre and it does well. Struggled if there's some wetness on the grass.

Did a little double-take on the batteries. It's 2 of the 20V batteries in the deal; not 2 x 40V batteries.
