This is a consumer level bag. Not many reviews. The MSRP is inflated due to the name.

The spec says the total size is 28 x 15.5 x 14.2 which is 57.7 inches which is below 62 inches for the most of the airlines. Are you sure it is too big to checkin ?

Nice looking bag but those buckles look like they are in a bad spot to get broken when thrown around.

Agreed. My luggage strap with a similar buckle always ends up breaking.

The main complaint was it was too big to check in for many airlines
I would have bought but this was the big hurdle
Decided to pass

There's a 32" variant. Maybe they were talking about that one?

I think this is actually smaller than most of the 28 inch cases.

If you really need actual protection for your stuff as a check bag, buy a Pelican 1615 (used, if available) and packing cubes.

The previous deal I saw for a Pelican luggage bag was for the carry-on that had measurements that were too big for most airlines. Maybe they got it confused with that one.

Agreed. Get a hard shell pelican even if you have to pay a premium and do the cubes.

My only advice for anyone getting a hard shell is to make sure it has the AIR PRESSURE VALVE so your case doesn't get sealed shut.

Too big? Not sure what that means when it comes to check in. The last bag is 22" version which was too big for carry on for most airlines. I see most bags costing roughly about this price and you must check this one, so I personally decided to buy.
As many have suggested, and I strongly do myself, this bag is not meant for valuables, electronics, or recording equipment. You never ever check those bags unless you own a money tree. These are for clothes, and your regular everyday crap if that bag will ever be out of your control for even a minute.
Second, if it's in your possession, and you know what's inside, why would you be overly aggressive with any bag in the first place. Especially when the contents are extremely valuable.
Only time I can ever see any of these bags, from smallest to largest loaded with any sensitive equipment would be for non flight use.

This is very tempting. Pelican makes very rugged stuff... this looks slightly less rugged, but also a little less flashy... people know that Pelican's usually carry expensive gear. I think I might try it! I need a new checked luggage and $140 is about as cheap as you are going to see for a quality made suitcase of this size. Checking reviews, looks like the lighter colors get dirty pretty quick, I'm going for a black one.

I have one of these and have loved it so far. It's basically the best possible hybrid between soft and hard-sided you can get. That being said, I bought it for and specifically use it for SCUBA diving - I really want more protection for my gear than a soft-sided case will bring and the shape is a little more ideal for that too. If I wanted a big suitcase for normal travel I'd stick to my travelpro. Of course, I am very happy with my case that I got at like $300. At $140 it's a no brainer and now I am buying a second one for my wife.

This is fine is protecting gear is critical enough that the weight doesn't matter. But the aegis weighs about 50% less than a 1615 and holds about 20% more.
