Gen 0 night vision, but I think $35 is a good price, $50 being fair, but at $70 or more I'd either go w/ a vlogger camcorder w/ IR for city use, spotting night vision security cameras or active IR lamps, or general snooping. This unit is probably suitable for less built-up environments with more open space, but with the 20 degree FOV you'll have to scan more or know where to aim.
The IR light shows as a dim red glow in the dark (you can see similar if you look at an IR TV remote control and press a button, it'll flash a dim red briefly, but this unit's IR lamp will be dim red as long as it is on). Also, being a flashlight, you will get reflection glare on the screen view if you're fairly straight on, including bright eyes from animals, and glass. You'll also get poor performance from the built-in IR lamp trying to see through glass, but you could set up IR lamps on the other side of the glass and leave the built-in IR lamp off if you like.
There's a focus ring, (edit: it needs one, objects at different distances fall out of focus). It does have a visible light fill light in addition to the IR, but with both off, just indoor lighting, there's definitely a red/yellow bias in the screen video (like a smartphone camera w/ cheap image processing).
