Not really defending Nintendo with the way they currently treating the consumer, but there is the $25 cardboard version if you really just want to play the games. Most people will think the point is the games, which wasn't even a great experience and then they'll complain on the $99 version. The replica is mostly for nostalgia and the $25 cardboard box is good enough just to play the games if people just want. and also, other regions are selling the nostalgia version for $75 after currency conversion. I think UK sells it cheaper than even the $69.99 games. Even those $50 or $40 amiibos are cheaper in other countries outside NA. Those tariffs have really hurt the prices on a lot of Chinese plastics/materials. I preordered the $99 version, but I'm going to be running it with a modded Switch 1.
Edit: Here's a gameplay video if anyone is unfamiliar / curious [youtu.be]. So just imagine watching that ~1 inch away from your eyeballs, at max brightness, with your face smashed up against a hot (non-ventilated) lens enclosure.
Edit: I agree it is a bit of a novelty item though.
That being said, hardware that requires constant subscription to use? GTFO with that nonsense....

I just remember the lenses being so freaking hot while playing. Face sweat everywhere when you peeled your eyes away from the unit with a pounding headache 5 minutes into some Mario Tennis.

BTW, whoever approved the WaterWorld game for release on the VB needs life in prison. That made ET on the Atari look like a masterpiece in comparison.
