I starter with the simple choice 4 lines promo ages ago. Kept that ever since and just added the free lines. Wife and 2 kids Mom Dad Brother Sister in law Aunt No free phone. Just the free line pays for itself.
I think I have a similar plan (simple choice north America) but the tax and fees are not included so each free line I would need to pay the taxes on which comes out to be $5/month per line.

How did you avoid paying the taxes on it?

tmobile said its forever, but they actually put a date on it. for example the insider discount is suppose to be for the life of the account. I had discovered from developer tool on my account page that tmobile put a year of 2099 on the discount. Tmobile figured that no current account holder is going to live through year 2099 ? lol. as soon as tmobile finds out that account holder passes away, technically, they can close the account ?
Having been on the other end of this type of thing, there are 2 ways you can handle tracking stuff like this in a database:
  1. Set an end date to "null" or "undefined" -- this means every time you look at date values you're checking to see if they're empty
  2. Set an end date to something far in the future. Depending on the system, some may store as something like 12/31/9999, others may pick a closer date like 2099. Note that if you're keeping track of both date & time, 2038 is where a lot of legacy systems that store 32-bit values will start having issues.

Does anyone know if these free lines include data? I have some free lines on SC. Some are the same as my regular lines. The last ones came with no data and you had to buy data separately, which was a way to make them not so free.
this free line comes at the same plan are you have currently.

Consolidation remove. Port out paid line AAA-AAA-AAAA to a temp carrier, paid line is auto cancelled --> port in AAA-AAA-AAAA over free line BBB-BBB-BBBB. Now free line is AAA-AAA-AAAA and you are down 1 paid line. Whole process could be done in an hour, but I recommend over a day or two just to make sure your temp carrier has full control over AAA-AAA-AAAA before porting back to T-mobile.

Some major caveats:
1) You must maintain the same number of lines or more for 1 year since you added any free line promotions. Dropping below the count may result in losing the free line promotion.
2) Your SOC must have a minimum of 2 base paid lines. A few older free line promotions required an extra set of base paid lines, so the min for them is 4 base paid lines. Dropping below this number may result in losing a free line promotion and the free line becoming a base paid line.
So if i'm reading this correctly, I could start with 2 paid lines, then collect the amount of free lines I need to fully cover my family (4 lines). Once I have enough free lines (2 paid + 4 free) and I wait at least 1 year after receiving the last free line, I could do this method of porting out the paid line and then port back in to replace a free line with my phone number?

Would I be able to do this for both of the paid lines and just simply have a free account? Or does this conflict with requirement number 2) that you listed and I would lose the free lines since I would no longer have any paid lines?

You'll need to maintain a minimum of 2 paid lines to keep the free line promos. You can't have an account with just free lines

Okay thank you for clarifying that. Is it possible to take advantage of this even though I'm currently not a T-Mobile customer? From what I'm reading, it looks like I would need specific SOC codes that seem to be related to older plans that no longer exist. What would be the best SOC codes to target for this and what is that plan?

There is no clarity yet on which SOCs qualify for this promo. Only the support personnel can check if your account has been segmented or not. End users cannot check (in their account) to see if they are eligible. Typically, during previous promos eligible account holders have seen a banner in T-Life app or received a text message, if they were eligible. If you are not a T-Mobile customer yet, I would recommend you starting with an Insider discount first. Reps at the stores usually have a code to give out, if you are porting into T-Mobile. This gives you a 20% discount on all voice lines, at the account level. Future voice lines would also get this discount. If you don't get the discount at one store, try at a different store or after a few weeks. After you move to T-Mobile, you just have to play the waiting game for these free line promos. Also take advantage of the BOGO free line if you are adding at least 2 lines. I think that you'll need a minimum of 2 paid lines for the BOGO promo as well.

When I made that same decision (many, many) years ago, the "Friend and Family 2016 promo" reported difference was all that I found in my research. I went with FRLTULFM9 because this SOC was the most similar to the SOC from which I was migrating and I was worried about messing up my existing discounts. Once I moved and added free line #5, I was able to get an additional 5 free lines for a total of 10 today. For whatever reason(s), I haven't been eligible for the past couple years of free lines. So maybe try asking those 9-12 line SOC people about when they last added a free line? Mine was December 2022. I haven't yet checked for this one, but highly unlikely. I'll post again if I am eligible.
Same situation here.. have 9 lines but always small print that voids it an the system charges the account. Then its a fight to remove and hope they don't screw account up

What about tax ?
No tax on my legacy Magenta plan. Originally was 2 lines for $120, added 5 free lines since inception.

The tax on the free line comes out to almost $5
If you an account with tax included, would this current free line be tax included or not?
