No. This controller can connect directly to an Xbox using it's proprietary wireless technology. It can also connect to things like PC, iOS, and Android over standard Bluetooth. And lastly, you should be able to use it wired with most things using a USB-C cable.

The USB receiver you're referring to is only necessary if you wish to connect the controller to a PC using the native and proprietary Xbox wireless connection. There are benefits to this over Bluetooth, like lower latency and more bandwidth. But if your PC already has Bluetooth, then you'll most likely be happy connecting using Bluetooth.

They're Bluetooth enabled, so you can use them on pretty much anything. Windows, Android, iOS...

I use them for Steam Link and they work great.

Not sure why it's just this color, but this is as cheap as I've seen them in any color. My RB button is almost broken (again) so might be time for another, another, another new controller.

That would be like killing a goose that lays gold eggs. You can get service to get them replaced with TMR ones through ebay listing if that's something you consider worth doing. Some can try to do on their own but its wont be easy for novice.
