So this one is $100 less than the Zenbook 14S I got a BB for 899 (it's back to 1299 but it might go on sale again) a couple weeks ago

https://www.bestbuy.com/product/a...JJGGLH7H3Y

At first I was kinda bummed I could have saved a hundy. I would have been pretty OK with this Vivobook 14. But as I dug deeper I found the differences and not just that the Zenbook is slimmer and sexier.

OLED on Vivobook is not touchscreen
CPU on Vivobook is ultra 7 258v, 8c/8t max 4.8ghz
CPU on Zenbbok is ultra 9 285H, 16c/16t max 5.2ghz

iGPU on both are ARC 140T and are similar, but the 285H is higher bandwidth, speed, and GPU TOPS

So there is nothing WRONG with the Vivobook, but I don't feel so bad now spending $100 more . Plus it is SO SEXY with the metal case. The Vivobook is very plastic-y.

But compared to these current prices, 799 vs 1299, I'd get the Vivobook. No touchscreen displeases the wife however. Weight is about the same, the Zenbook might be 2 ounces lighter, no big.

edit - have since been informed that the Vivobook is not plastic-y , was basing off product photos

A few things:
iGPU on Vivobook is ARC 140V, not 140T (not that they are much different, but still...)
The Vivobook has a microSD card reader, the Zenbook does not.
The Vivobook is all metal, and doesn't feel plastic-y at all.
The Vivobook has better battery life.
The Ultra 9 285H in the Zenbook you mention throttles quite a bit.
It's possible to get the Core Ultra 5 version of this Vivobook for significantly less when it goes on sale. I picked up mine for $359.99 from Best Buy. Battery life is insanely good (better than the Core Ultra 7), and the Series 2 Ultra 5 is only about 10-15% behind in performance vs the Series 2 Ultra 7 such as is found in the Vivobook being considered here. I don't see this as a such a great deal.

Not all Vivobooks are metal. The lowest tier definitely are not. But I believe all the Vivobook S series laptops are. I'm typing on my Ultra 5 version of this laptop and it's all metal. I am certain the Ultra 7 version would be also. In case anyone wants to see a review, here's a review of the Ultra 5 version (spoiler - it was very favorably reviewed):

I have the slightly worse version of this Ultra 5 226v, 500gb storage, 16gb ram (got for $450)
the build quality is very nice, and the fan noise is very minimal.

I bought this exact deal end of Jan 2025 and have been using the laptop daily since then. Generally very happy with it; good build quality, all-day battery life, processor is super snappy for everyday tasks. Rarely hear the fan spin up. Coming from a 2.2 lb zenbook this one feels distinctly heavier, although it's not too bad.

My biggest gripe is the glossy display. Every single laptop I've had so far was matte, and I would give up the OLED in a heartbeat to go back to matte. Glossy is just an incomparably worse user experience; tilting the display this way and that to minimize reflections has become an everyday thing.

Had grabbed this laptop earlier this year when it was $750 from Walmart. I can say it's definitely a joy to use. It isn't as premium as say the Zenbook but it's still pretty good. Got enough ports for me and use it as a daily/work computer. Battery life on standby is also pretty astonishing with these newer Intel chips. I had left it alone for like a few days and the battery percentage only went down like 1 or 2 percent. It isn't going to last as long as a Macbook Air but it's definitely a good Windows version of it. No issues with opening like 4 excel workbooks and attaching an external monitor on this thing.

If it wasn't glossy OLED I'd pick it up. Will wait for similar specs with matte.
