This has some really bad reviews on HD and Amazon. Very difficult to change string and it heats up and melts the carbon fiber

It takes some repeat to learn/remember how to open the trimmer string housing. I do agree that reloading the spool can be frustrating.
That is the same with the non-carbon fiber trimmer. However, if one puts 6-8 ft of string in it, depending on how much one is trimming, it will last a few weeks if not more. HINT: spray WD-40 into the trimmer line holes and they will come out better.
While the head can melt off as reported, there are over 1000 reviews with only a few reporting this. Any product can have a defect. Regardless, to me, the battery and charger are worth it alone for my other 40v equipment. Here's to hoping mine is manufactured correctly.

Just picked one up. Can't wait until spring to try it. I had a Kobalt 24v which got the job done, but the bump head broke, so it's almost as expensive to buy the replacement parts as it is to just buy this. I'm sure it won't be any worse than what I'm used to.

Watched a YouTube video on changing string and didn't seem all that difficult. Many string trimmers are a pain to change.

Same. I watched a video and bookmarked to the section on changing string, just in case I don't remember.

Here is the video. He gives a very thorough demonstration:

Just picked one up at our local store in California, in the Garden isle. There were a few of them left. All have the 'clearance' yellow price sticker on the box. This being California, you do have to ask an associate to unlock the cage for you.

I've to say that HD's real time inventory tracking is very accurate. My local store showed 30 on hand as of yesterday and 28 this morning, after I bought one this afternoon it went down to 27. I saw 14 at the store, 7 on the floor and 7 on the rack. Not sure where the other 14 is stored.

I got one in Miami for the $74.50 price, at SW 157th Avenue and 88th Street. There was one remaining when I left but now that store shows unavailable.

If you are in this area don't bother with the Home Depot on SW 127th Avenue and 88th Street. That shows 10 available but they can't find them. I spent 45 minutes there this afternoon. They were stumped and assigned their sharpest floor guy to the search. He walked everywhere checking rafters, etc. but never found them.

Fortunately I decided SW 157th was my best bet, among all the local stores that showed 1 or 2 remaining. I goosed the total just above $100 with other stuff I needed then applied a $15 off $100+ Home Depot coupon.

Everything in the trimmer box was slightly more than one year old. The charger had manufacture date of 2428, the battery was 2433 and the trimmer was 2435. First two digits are year, second two the week.

BTW, the included charger is a fast charger, not a rapid charger. The model number is OP408VNM. Fast charger is 2x the speed of normal charger while rapid charger is 4x as fast.
How can you tell battery date?

It is on the serial number. For example, my battery serial number began with TM2433. The TM is an abbreviation for the manufacture location. 24 means 2024. 33 means the 33rd week of 2024, so that would have been mid August
