"The line must be activated, and stay, on our Dark Star network."
Unfortunately, ATT sucks in my area. Otherwise, seems like a nice deal.

They do offer the option of paying more upfront if you don't want the hassle of using a prepaid card. For the Unlimited Starter:
"Pay $270 up front, then receive a $151 prepaid card at activation with code SWEETER119. Or get a sweet deal of $149 at checkout with code SWEET149"
And for the Unlimited Premium:
"Pay $390 up front, then receive a $211 prepaid card at activation with code SWEETER179. Or get a sweet deal of $239 at checkout with code SWEET239"

Although as someone else mentioned, one caveat is that you're stuck on the Dark Star for a year which is AT&T service. The 50% off Multi-Network add-on (which I assume makes the cost from $7.50/mo -> $3.75/mo) would be worth getting since it allows your phone to use T-Mobile and Verizon networks in case AT&T sucks in your area.

The only thing that sucks about US Mobile is their limited Canada / Mexico roaming plans. 200 minutes / 250 txts is no bueno for me. I'm going to look at the Mint Mobile deal instead.
I see Mint has free unlimited roaming in Canada but nothing in Mexico?

Whoa! That's cruel.

In that case, it makes sense to use a virtual CC or a prepaid visa card for the initial payment, and then get rid of the card or empty it.

I believe they cannot stop the port out because that isn't allowed per FCC regulations.
So you either need to do the prepaid thing or you have to cancel immediately after the 12 months and expect them to prorate you 95+% of month 13?

If annual, it's probably the best deal!
yes, it's a good deal for a year. Not sure what the price will be after the first year though.

Does this combine with their 30 day trial?Probably gonna switch anyways away from Mint as this is much cheaper, and Mint doesn't really offer any incentives to stay with them
I was also curious and asked live chat but their support is outsourced and infuriating to chat with so I couldn't get a straight answer.

Yeah, nothing in Mexico. US Mobile is better than Mint there, and I would even say International roaming, Mint sucks outside of Canada. You have to buy the Minternational pass.

This the kind of thing that people with little knowledge speak on and lead others astray. This is on a terrible network

Support via their subreddit is a lot more responsive and knowledgeable, the downside being that you need to use reddit

Be careful folks, not sure how to interpret this, but if you switch to another carrier towards the end of your term (most people will try to switch in the 11th or 12th month) US Mobile can technically charge you the difference and essentially claw back the promo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Network Restrictions
Network transfers are blocked for this offer. Lines must remain on Dark Star for the full duration of the annual cycle. Any attempt to transfer the line to a different network will void any applicable promotional pricing or prepaid card issuance. The line's authorized payment method may be charged the difference between the full price of the annual plan and the discounted promotional price.
They're not saying you can't port out to Mint, Visible, etc. before the year is up; it's a restriction on a feature of their service.
Typically US Mobile lets you jump (they call it "teleporting"... yeah, whatever) between the which network you want to use with them, for free—as many times as you want with Unlimited Premium, twice with Unlimited Starter. However, for their deals there's often a restriction on this. The current theory is that they got a really good deal with AT&T but they need to hit certain targets to keep getting good deals.

if you go down the virtual cc route then technically they can send you to collections.

so, first deal was Light speed only, now this one is Dark star only...and you can't switch to Light Speed if Dark Star is terrible in your area

maybe Xmas time, they will have one where you can pick either?
