It is actually $25 new as of this comment timestamp. For whatever reason the link defaults to used. Change condition to New and it is $25. Of course shipping isn't free, but local pick up is an option.

Used, also shipping brings it closer to $30 unless you spend $80 to get free shipping. So I don't think saying it's $23 is a fair description. I wish it was.

its pretty much a one-to-one remake of the original. i played through it but it doesn't really add any new stuff to justify the purchase if you've played MGS3 a bunch of times already, at least for me. Just looks prettier and plays closer to MGS5. The whole "all wounds leave permanent scars" thing is interesting but you're almost always gonna have camo on so doesn't really mean much. The slightly improved camo system is nice though

One-to-one remake should be a huge selling point for any classic tbh. I think FF7R would've sold way way more copies had it been a one-to-one remake. Not to mention Snake Eater isn't just "prettier". It's a whole 3-generation leap, and looks the part. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDrZ7Eipp1c
I think even if you've played the original multiple times, still worth replaying the remake cause it's an amazing game.

The online store stock is never accurate. I just called a store that wasn't even listed as in stock and they had a sealed copy.

I think it's partly generational. Most gamers now shifted towards gacha (Genshin Impact), Fortnite, etc. Interest in older IPs could be dying out, because GenZ and alpha would represent larger segment of gamers compared to PS2-PS4 era. Then the people that grew up with metal gear are now the parents of those playing Roblox and whatnot.

Holy shit how bad is this remake? Haven't seen a game go from $70 to $25 this fast in a long time. It just came out like 3 months ago

I wouldn't say it was a flop. It sold 1M copies at launch and even with a steady decline in sales, doesn't mean it's not still moving numbers. My guess is that it's a factor of 2 things:

1) The MGS Master collection just came out semi-recently which included MGS3 as part of it so lots of people couldn't justify spending $70 on "the same game"

2) 1:1 remakes are a hard sale at full retail price of a "new" game. FF7 remake, love it hate it, is able to sell at $70 because it's almost a complete re-imagining of FF7 so it feels like a new fresh game/franchise. MGS Delta is pretty much a 1:1 remake of the original, which is excellent for fans of MGS3 but we've been conditioned to see remakes as more of a $40-50 purchase at launch as opposed to a full-priced game. I'm sure many people felt it was overpriced on that merit alone.

If you're a fan of MGS3, personally, I think this game is a must-buy. Don't let the sudden drop in price fool you. Other factors contributed to it, not the quality of the game itself. Also, this isn't an across the board price drop. Just a sale from Gamestop and a few other retailers have price-matched. It's still full-price on Steam (where it sits at "very Positive" reviews, mind you.). If you have any interest in revisiting MGS3, definitely pick this up, especially at $25!
