It looks like advantages (for me...well it's for my wife) of each are:
Lenovo: Larger screen and numeric keypad (she does like it)
HP: More RAM.
Is the build quality similar? I'm really leaning towards something like this with the 860M iGPU to keep weight down but be able to some games at low settings. The top graphics intensive game she wants to play is Hogwarts Legacy (note for my LGBTQ+ friends...it's free and so we don't have to cross the Anti-JKR picket line to play it).

No idea why the open box price shot up to $411 so quickly.

Just hope it is actually in excellent condition without any other issues. It's always YMMV with these open-box laptops regardless of condition.
If you bought at $296.99, that's a great price for the AI 5 version. You may have caught it just as BB servers were updating their prices. Some times those only last for 30 mins or so until they actually update to the actual price they want to sell for.

I have not purchased a new PC for someone in literally decades. The idea of a $300 computer that has CPU benchmarks that (superficially) appear to in the ballpark of my 2021 16" M1 Max (which I use for media production all day, and still love) just blows my mind. My friend is a student who just needs an email + Google Doc machine, so this seemed almost certainly likely to be OK.
Assuming it indeed is in good condition and works, I'm very curious to see it tomorrow & see the ways it's been "value-engineered", so to speak. (guessing the display will be a big one.)
