The large one will not meet airlines checked baggage dimensions, right? Total linear dimension adds up to 64".
Technically correct: everybody limits you to 62". However, you need to be extremely unlucky to get measured. From the picture, the dimensions look like including the wheels, so make sure you make the weight limit and most likely you'll not trigger the dimensions check. But the risk is definitely there

Why is the one in this thread better than this which looks 1000% better and is 100% polycarbonate?

Looks are subjective, personally I don't like flat plastic look. I'd check the weight and specs before deciding. Additionally this is 3 piece set ,that link is 2 piece, but I'd probably go with costco regardless.

Amazon reviews have flagged the Omni 2 for these issues

NEUTRAL that equates to Yellow flag: Durability, Size., and Build quality
Red Flag: Zipper quality

What's good is a suitcase if the zippers have issues? Why does Samsung not use industry leading YKK zippers? That's a no brainer.

Regarding largest ones, like 30", generally the issue with those is not running out of space but the getting them too heavy. So the largest one is good for road trips I guess.
100% true.

For medium to large size luggage, the weight difference between softside and hardside is significant.

I just bought a single Quince hard side medium luggage for $140. Anyone know if this is better? 3 pieces for just a bit more seems like maybe a smarter move.
How do you like the Quince? I was tempted

The only issue may be weight of the largest.

As an example of weight, the luggage in the link below is OUTSTANDING, but the larger luggage is 12.7 lbs.

The question is to find quality luggage like the one in the above link, without having to overpay because of the brand, eg., Quince.

Separately, this is also a good deal:
