And for the question not asked. These bootloaders are locked, you will not be putting any ROMs on them. Motorola will not give you the bootloader unlock code. Not to be confused with the NETWORK unlock after 60 days of service.

If you want to buy the phone and have it unlocked, simply purchase the phone, call Straight Talk, tell them you want the phone re-branded to tracfone, which they can do, and then buy a Tracfone $19.99 plan from Walgreens to have the phone unlocked after 60 days. The plan below is 90 days and is $19.99.

60 days of paid service. You'd rather get the moto stylus for free after paying for 2 months of service which would be $90.

This is a good way to go about it. I've done this a few times with success.
oh man, this would've been great for the recent iPhone 13/Straight Talk deal a couple of weeks back. Would love to hear more success stories with this process for the next time.

This is what I was curious about. How bad is the bloat on this if I just want to use it for emulation?

The moto stylus version is free with $45 silver plan from straight talks website. This phone has the 6th gen qualcolm processor, 120hz oled screen, and more ram. I bought one to turn into a switch like device loaded with emulators and a 8bitdo Ultimite phone controller holder that was featured previously on slickdeals.
Which is faster? Or better screen?

The Stylus is better in all specs....namely double the ram and memory.

Not bad. On a PC, you can use APPCONTROL app to remove most (99 % of the bloatware). Use search for bloatware list and the model of your phone and you should be good to go. However, beware some of those lists will get you in trouble. So be aware of what you are deleting. But even when I deleted some android auto files, play store just installed what I needed at the time..https://adbappcontrol.com/en/
and https://www.androidpolice.com/mot...uninstall/ (there is more of course, just search)

This could be good for one of these Samsung Certified Refurbished deals when they offer $350 for "any Android" phone, but I haven't seen that in a while. You can probably get cheaper on 3rd party sites but then you risk having issues and trade in getting denied. A new device for trade in is pretty safe, though with Samsung you still need to document anything and everything.

Hey, thanks for posting this.

I was literally in the middle of doing this, was ready to buy the 8bitdo mobile controller.
Was looking for a cheap phone.
For $45, it's a great phone for emulation.
