- Many, in fact most Seikos and Citizens are overpriced and built to a price
- I don't know of any limited edition Seiko or Citizens that are ISO-rated dive watches resistant to 20 bar.
- The Prospex line would be 20 bar rated, but not limited, numbered editions and would be north of $350……this watch is $150.
- This watch is running a Seiko automatic movement and comes with a 2 year warranty like many microbrands.
- Generally Seikos and Citizens are not mentioned when folks are looking for quality watches that punch above their weight.
Finally, 'you'd be better off' with any Zelos, Armida, Helson, Revelot, Helm, Baltic or San Martin before you buy a Seiko or Citizen if you're looking for watches that are limited, hold their value and punch far above their weight.
And Seikos under $500 are notorious for bad builds. Poorly aligned hands, bezels, chapter rings…..just hate when newbies give bad advice….

And somehow you think MVMT, of all brands out there, would be better quality??

And I've had Seikos with bezel alignment issues. But every seiko I've ever owned punched way above it's weight. And all have functioned flawlessly for decades. From Grands all the way down to a sub-$200 beater.
I've never heard of this "brand", but from my brief reading, they're trash. Polishing turds for the uninformed/ignorant who fall for marketing without doing research. Essentially a "as seen on TV" level product.
All that to say buy a Seiko, Bulova, or Citizen for the same money. Don't buy this junk.

AI Overview
Yes, Seiko is notorious for chapter ring misalignment and other QC issues, even on higher-priced models, frustrating many buyers who find it unacceptable for a brand of its size, leading to a "meme" status, but these watches are often repairable or replaceable under warranty, with fixes involving crystal removal and re-gluing the ring.
Common Issues
Why It Happens
Solutions & Buyer Advice
Many Seikos are durable, reliable, and have great movements (like the NH35).
The misalignment issue is a known flaw, but doesn't necessarily mean the entire watch is bad, just that you might need to check or fix that specific part.

- Size - at 40mm with a L2L of around 47mm (but fairly thick at 13.5) I find it to be nicely chunky without being overwhelming for my 6.7in wrist. I think it hits a sweet spot that shouldn't be too big or small for most wrist sizes.
- Design - It's distinctive. It reminds me of a cross between the Longines Legend (which I owned and sold for being just too big L2L but loved otherwise) and the Caravelle Sea Hunter (which I picked up recently and is an awesome slightly smaller diver like this at $250-$300) - Quite simply, it has a nice presence in person and even reminds me of the Kobold Soarway Diver which was a cool but oversized and overpriced diver in its day. I've actually gotten a few nice compliments on this watch and its rare I ever get any on my divers.
- Packaging - It comes in a cool case that's pretty distinctive with 2 NATO straps with numbering on the box that does make it stand out.
- Movement - Standard low-cost Seiko movement that's in tons of similar microbrands and smaller brands. But the see-through case back has a bit of nice decoration and finishing on the perimeter as well.
- Rotating bezel is a bit loose but generally pleasing in action and sound (I'm very picky on this and a crappy rotating bezel will sour me on any diver watch). The crown is oversized, signed, and has pretty solid action overall, actually superior to many of the lower end Swiss divers I've owned like Glycine, Tissot, etc.
Now for some negatives:- The spring bars are screwed in (very tight) and huge with large, drilled lug holes. They look cool and are designed to allow the 2 NATO straps to be exchanged easily but be aware if you plan on installing other straps your options will be a bit limited and large drilled lug holes will be apparent. I bought a 22mm brown leather strap with quick-release spring bars and I think it looks great generally, even with the large, drilled lugs.
- The mineral crystal is a huge bummer, as there are other options at that price (including even the other MVMT automatic divers!). But other divers in this price range and higher (like the aforementioned Caravelle SH and lots of Seiko/Citizens in this range) also include mineral crystal so it may or may not be a dealbreaker
- If you are brand conscious, this (Movado-owned) company has had a somewhat shady reputation over the years for publicity over quality, but IMHO, most people day-to-day know nothing about most watch brands in general, so this is likely to only bother the snobs (which does include me at times).
- With the NATO straps and the slightly thick profile the watch wears especially large for small wrists. Switching straps for me was a game-changer, but it's a slight pain with the stock spring bars.
Overall, I wanted to post this because I found this one of my favorite pick-ups of the past couple years, enough so that I've even considered picking up an extra one as a gift. Along with the Caravelle SH I mentioned, my two favorite low-cost divers of the recent years. While Seiko/Citizen/Microbrands (especially AliExpress brands like San Martin) might offer better bang for the buck in terms of specs, this watch is a fun package for sure!Sign up for a Slickdeals account to remove this ad.

MVMT is a terribly overpriced Chinese watch and right there in the bucket with Stuhrling Original. The Citizen Promaster is a well-known legitimate diving watch which is also an automatic and can be had for $250. The Promaster will last forever-- not sure I could say the same about a MVMT dive watch.

There are many other legitimate proven dive watches out there, so there is little reason to have a MVMT (pun intentional?). Hell, while not an automatic, a Casio Duro will outlast the wearer for <$60. And if you need some type of cred, this is the "Bil Gates Watch"...
