Once all the fake green movement initiatives are eliminated ("cow farts are bad"), the herd will get bigger and beef prices will drop well before 2028.
Likewise, once the Screwworm is taken care of, more imports will happen.
"The U.S. has imposed temporary bans or suspensions on live cattle imports from Mexico since May 2025 due to the resurgence of the devastating New World Screwworm, a parasitic fly whose larvae infest livestock flesh, threatening U.S. herds and potentially raising beef prices, with ongoing talks between U.S. and Mexican officials to resolve containment issues and potentially reopen the border, although the U.S. remains cautious about lifting restrictions until significant progress in controlling the pest is shown. Guess you only get "half" the real news.
Time to change the channel and go outside.
All cattle and calves in the United States on July 1, 2025, totaled 94.2 million head, 1% below the 95.4 million head on July 1, 2023, USDA NASS reported on Friday. (USDA did not release a Cattle inventory report for July 1, 2024.)
Prices are at record highs and ranchers get Welfare and Reward$.
ZERO reason to produce more and make LE$$
Trend has been this way in all the markets(not just meat).

1% decline does not = 100% price increase.

And maybe you missed this headline (Bloomberg; July 2025):
"Cattle herd hits record low, prolonging high beef prices for consumers
USDA reports lowest mid-year cattle count since 1973, indicating herd rebuilding hasn't begun. High beef prices likely to persist for years."
This didn't start in 2025. Who was president in 2022, 2023?
But when hubby started slicing the meat up, he said 'wait a minute, this isn't ribeye! This is a cheaper cut of meat, sirloin!'. Sure enough, Google lens also ID'd it as sirloin! We couldn't see what the meat looked like inside the big cryo-vac slab, so the package was mis-marked & sold as ribeye when it was not.
BTW, I don't know if it's local or nationwide, but my Costco extended the sale to 1/??/26. The freezer of huge >25# slabs was still there with a $50 off sign. Maybe the sale is until they sell off all the slabs.
