I believe this switch requires cloud connectivity to manage it. Meaning tp link can stop supporting it

Any suggestions for a good managed non cloud 12-16 port switch with poe (8 minimum)?

Indeed. Omada Controllers can't do anything with this.

A used Cisco Enterprise switch, if you're capable to manage it, are ok with minimum 24 ports and don't mind 2 minutes of industrial sound levels whenever you reboot it. I picked up 48 port full PoE 2900 series for about $250, and that was a few years ago.

The PoE flavor of the Cisco's tend to have continuous industrial sound levels and power consumption.

If you're not afraid of some older equipment, check out the Brocade ICX series. They are L3 beasts for the price. Something like a ICX7250-24P might meet the requirements.

4xSFP is gigabit only? Not quite helpful for uplink/downlink between Layer2 switches

Brave AI says that one can flash OpenWRT so you can get around the cloud dependency, if you like to tinker. I did it with my TP-Link ER605 and it wasn't too hard. AI claims this switch is a re-packaged ER605 and that the process is similar.

The TP-Link Festa FS328G is not supported by OpenWrt, and there is no known custom OpenWrt firmware for it. Attempting to flash OpenWrt on it would involve unsupported hacks that could brick the device. For most users wanting OpenWrt functionality, it's safer to run OpenWrt on a supported router and use the Festa switch as a managed layer-2 device. OpeWrt firmware should only used to flash supported routers or mini PCs. Linux based firmware like TP link does not have unlocked bootloader. Post reliable reference instead of BraveAI
