The new Google TV Streamer (4K) is currently on sale for $74.99 (Regularly $99.99). Porcelain color only.

Available at:

B&H Photo: $74.99
Target: $74.99
Google Store: $74.99
Home Depot: $74.99 (Note: Confirmed for "Hazel" color; Porcelain may vary)
Lowe's: Check local price (listed as $79.99 in some regions)

Resolution: 4K HDR with Dolby Vision & Dolby Atmos
Storage: 32GB (Huge upgrade over the old 8GB Chromecast)
Smart Home: Built-in Thread border router & Matter support
Remote: New voice remote with "Find My Remote" feature
Connectivity: Built-in Ethernet port (Gigabit)

I bought this specifically to overcome the Samsung TV Tizen OS limitation of Google Assistant. Newer Samsung TVs have removed Assistant support, and this device brings it back along with a much cleaner interface.

It's probably been discussed before, but I am new to this, how's it compared to onn plus or pro? Any reason to pay more for this?

Wifi based smart devices constantly disconnect and must manually be reconnected. This acts as a matter hub. A more reliable connection for smart devices. Not featured in the onn. otherwise I hear the onn is faster and less expensive

Have Apple TV, but the remote just broke. Cost is $60, would it be better to just change out to Google TV? Anyone have both and can provide insight?

In addition, the extra 1GB of RAM keeps more apps 'alive' in the background.

I have all the streaming devices , except the Apple TV and the nvidia shield. the Apple TV and nvidia shield are often said to be the top of the line for streaming, but most of the articles I have read over the past couple of years, say whatever your eco-system is, is the deciding factor between most streaming devices.

so, if you are an apple shop, you might want to stick with apple tv.

You can buy this Google TV and try it.
I think target has a 90-day return policy if you buy with a target red card. I think it is 30-days if you do not have a target red card ( please double check the return policy, if you want to buy it and try it )

I do like the UX ( user experience ) of the Google TV, but I hate the google TV remote, it is way to slipery.
the fire stick is the 2nd worst remote
and I use my roku devices ( a roku 4k stick and roku ultra ) the most because they have the best remotes.

I have used apple TV's at a friends. I rate the remotes in this order

roku #1
apple tv #2
fire stick #3
google tv #4
google chrome cast #5

We've had the "premiun" 4k onn for a year now. It's been almost flawless, 100% less issues then the roku we had and the google chrome before that.

Update : Not as many ads as firetv which we returned at first because it was so bad. Also got it for $50 at that time. Might be on sale or at least cheaper then google which now is just acting like Apple for "name tax".

I wonder how this compares to the ONN boxes at Walmart ($29 for the 'plus')? I have a couple of those and they are great.

Onn Plus doesn't have an Ethernet port. Can be fixed with a Ethernet USB hub. Also has only 2gb of ram.
The pro has a Ethernet connection but limited to 10/100. You can get a Ethernet adapter to solve this.

I have an Onn pro and plus and a 2015 Nvidia shield and a 2019 Shield Pro

Stick with onn 4k. I have both and should have just saved money and went with onn again. It's basically the same remote with the "find remote" feature on the google streamer.

You could say the Google will get faster updates, but I've found that even it is constantly lagging behind what's the "latest" for android. For example, my pixel 9 will be on security update December and the Google streamer will be on September or something.

For me it would be the Nvidia Shield. It's the only tech I have that is use daily that is 10+ years old.

But if your in the US and don't want to spent the money on the Shield Pro, then I would get an Onn Pro. The Android boxes fit what I need.

Roku too locked down and not into the Apple Ecosystem
