Ehh.... refurb? You can get a brand new 5060 for $259 with a warranty that will meet or beat this thing and use less power. And all the latest DLSS4 + framegen tech will spank a 3070
edit - looked on ebay and this is about the going price for a used 3070 but at least this one comes with a 90 day warranty. I would still recommend spending another 50 and going new & current gen.
This refurbished RTX 3070 is a solid step up from older cards like the RTX 3050 or GTX 1070, with 5888 CUDA cores and enough muscle for 1440p gaming. The 90 day warranty and reports of Zotac cards running fine add some reassurance, and the LHR design was meant to keep miners away while staying gamer friendly. The main drawback is the 8GB VRAM, which can limit higher settings and makes newer 4060, 5060, or 9060 XT options look more appealing for similar money. A decent midrange upgrade if 8GB fits your needs.
Players on 1080p or 1440p monitors, because 8GB VRAM is still enough when they are willing to avoid 4K settings.
Buyers comparing against newer current-generation cards, because similarly priced 40- and 50-series options offer frame generation, lower power use, and better warranties.
At around $210-$245, it sits near the used-market price for a 3070 and includes a 90-day warranty. Newer cards like the RTX 5060, 4060, or 4060 Ti can cost a bit more but bring lower power use and newer DLSS/frame generation features.
8GB VRAM is generally enough for 1440p gaming, but it can cap settings and makes 4K a poor fit. It is a strong upgrade over older cards like an RTX 3050 or GTX 1070, but newer 8GB cards may offer better warranties and features for similar money.
Yes, it is a meaningful upgrade from a GTX 1070 and should handle 1440p gaming better, especially for titles that already max out the 1070. The exact gain depends on the game and settings, but it is a sensible step up for dual-monitor 1440p use.
LHR means low hash rate: the card was intentionally limited for mining so it would be less attractive to miners while still performing normally for gaming. It does not change the card's gaming focus.
Then you should know better. The value has always been with AMD.
Not true. The two have respectively leap frogged each other, especially when concerning certain features. The industry needs both to push each other. Of course, having four or five would be even better.
I have an old gaming pc with 9th gen i7 and 1070 currently.
I currently play with 1440p @ 100hz & 1200p @ 60hz dual monitors and max out the 1070 with the games I currently play - CS2, WC3, REPO. I recently got a 4k @ 60 so I'm swapping out the 1200p.
Would this be a reasonable upgrade? Looks like passmark gives this 39% better G3D Rating than the 1070.
I believe I can't get get the newer cards because I have an old proc & mobo.

I'd personally get the 5060 for $260 on amazon with the resolution you're playing on.

I still have a computer with a i7 7700k and 1080 TI in it. Works great still and can still play so much with it
Price and performance being similar a 40 or 50 series card definitely makes more sense. It'll be far from perfect but you'll get more mileage long term from having the option to turn on framegen.

Both cost a bit more but are current cards with better warranties and feature sets. Also much lower power consumption.
