These are awful. We built a new 1 bedroom ADU and did a 2 room, 1 bathroom addition on our house last year and the contractor put these in the new ADU and replaced everything in our house and new addition with these. They go off in the middle of the night for no reason. They claimed there was a fire there was no fire, I reset them multiple times, I replaced them with new versions of same brand. My tenant was also waking up in the middle of the night with these. They are horrible. Maybe you will get lucky, it seemed like it was just 3 faulty units out of the 7 we installed. Its not worth the hassle though. It is awful waking up at 4am to a fire alarm and if they are mounted on the ceiling you have to get a chair or a ladder to reset them.
Dont trust me? Read reviews on amazon or just search google. These things suck, I wouldn't even take them for free.

Any suggestions for Chinese ones?
Siterwell and x sense make very cost competitive designs and perform very competitively. I just highly recommend you try to get units that are UL 217 8th edition or higher certified. Alarms with metal mesh tend to perform very well.

It's intentionally misleading. If you read the fine print it's 10 year warranty with no guarantee on battery performance.
Actually if it's UL217 certified they have to be able to last 10 years under normal average usage on the internal battery if it says 10 year battery. Keep in mind that the more a unit detects smoke and alarms the more power it will consume.

Ten years from when it's initially powered on, per the product page and user manual.
