TLDR - if you have an apartment or small house, then SimpliSafe is fine. If you live in something bigger, want to mount a sensor or camera further than 50 feet away, or already have an Alexa or Ring Doorbell, get the Ring alarm instead.

Long version:

I've had SimpliSafe for many many years, and I really like the App and the monitored security service, but I don't recommend it for anyone with a medium or larger sized house. They use a proprietary wireless frequency and do not offer an extender. That works fine for apartments or small houses, but any sensor that is more than 50 feet away or has to pass through a lot of walls is going to struggle to stay connected to the base. I had to modify two sensors and add extra length to the antenna in order to make it work at my place.

When it came time to buy a system for my mom's place, I went with Ring instead. They sell an extender that you can use to improve the signal wherever you need it. The doorbell camera and integration with Alexa are nice features too. They also have a "Pro" version that incorporates an eero router and can provide backup Internet service if your primary ISP goes down. Overall, they keep seeming to make improvements while SS is stuck with the same complaints about wireless signal strength.

You get an even better deal if you get the 10-piece (including 1 camera) for $99. Item number 1929332

Edit: 1929332 is no longer discounted.

I bought this unit in the spring time and it's the worst electronics product I bought in years. Firmware is full of bugs and extremely hard to diagnose setup issues. Good luck with any type of good support. At least the company itself admits to firmware bugs. It's a nice paperweight.

I've had the exact opposite experience. Set up was super easy have not had a single issue. Cameras have been great , sensors work fine. Have not had any disconnection issues.

This was $99.99 yesterday, now I see is full price. I managed to get 2 x 1929332 for $199.98 + tax. The promotion expired on the 31st.
