Since this thread will probably get a lot of views let this be my yearly reminder that when it comes to the desktop/download version, virtually no one needs anything other than Turbotax Deluxe.

TT strongly pushes Premier and Home & Business but the fact is that TT Deluxe can handle every situation that these more expensive versions can. The only exception that I am aware of is the ability to create W2 and 1099 forms for employees in H&B.

Deluxe has everything for all investment types, everything for owners of rental properties, everything for self-employed (1099-NEC/Schedule C filers), everything for those who do itemized deductions.

The higher versions offer more guidance but Deluxe has all the forms required and will still walk you through all of it.

Note that Turbotax Online is completely different, Deluxe Online is purposely limited forcing more complex returns to use the more expenisve Online versions than Deluxe.

Friendly reminder that this now requires Windows 11 and unfortunately will not work on Windows 10.

Or just do freetaxusa and get the same experience on the web for free. I think state is like $15 if you want to do that through them too

I wasn't sifting through 49 pages of "use this or that" or "deal dead". Just wanted to post that:

TurboTax 2025 ONLY works with Windows 11

Yes Windows 10 is considered "obsolete", but many people did not upgrade or force upgrade to a newer 6th Gen pc to allow the Malware/Ad ridden Windows 11 controlling OS on their computer(s)... and Win10 works fine. If that's you (like me on most of my personal pc's even though they can handle Win11 just fine), then be warned.
Or you can just update your computer to windows 11. without updating your hardware, or using any nefarious software. just pop windows on a usb stick, 1 or 2 regedits and run with certain commands and you're upgraded. I did this for a family member and it took 4 hours tops including customization to disable bloat. the exact commands and things vary depending on you hardware, but it's all reasonably well documented and didn't require any shady third party software. and it's running great on her 7th generation i5 mobile laptop. This was also an "upgrade" so all her software / bookmarks / etc survived the update.

Here's a hint " setup.exe /product server "

I don't understand. What is the difference between downloading this software onto your PC or Mac compared to just doing it online through their Web application?

The government ought to provide intuitive and accessible free software for tax filers.
They have for certain income groups. https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile...ll-offers/

Yes, it's definitely possible. But how long did Windows XP stick around after because it was so solid. Same happened with Windows 7 after Windows 10 (We don't talk about Win8) was released. If you don't need to upgrade, you just don't. When you're forced to upgrade, it's feels very commercialized. It's 2 months after the announcement of Windows 10 End of Life on Oct 25, 2025. Microsoft is forcing your hand on hardware, TurboTax is forcing your hand on software. Your answer is "just comply".

This deal is for the download/desktop version, which can be installed on 5 computers (using the same Intuit account).
yes I know, I mean the previous person that got an offer to "upgrade" to premier online version when they went to install the desktop one. just warning people it might be a trap if they need the 5 computer installs

Bought the Amazon one just now. No $10 gift card so I just bulled some issue on another Amazon product previously bought to get a $10 credit. All good here

Disagree. Ever a W2 wager will see benefit from a halfway decent accountant. There's lots of things people aren't aware of that can help them with their taxes. The gov't would greatly prefer you don't...because you leave money on the table. Their table to be specific.
Give on example of something an accountant would suggest that a non-accountant experienced doing his own taxes using tax software would miss and would more than offset the accountant's fees.

If you're just a W-2 employee, few 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-R, few stock transactions with no business or rental property write offs or multi state complications, I don't see how an accountant can with come up with a deduction out of thin air.

Lots of lobbying goes into making sure that doesn't happen.
