Since this thread will probably get a lot of views let this be my yearly reminder that when it comes to the desktop/download version, virtually no one needs anything other than Turbotax Deluxe.

TT strongly pushes Premier and Home & Business but the fact is that TT Deluxe can handle every situation that these more expensive versions can. The only exception that I am aware of is the ability to create W2 and 1099 forms for employees in H&B.

Deluxe has everything for all investment types, everything for owners of rental properties, everything for self-employed (1099-NEC/Schedule C filers), everything for those who do itemized deductions.

The higher versions offer more guidance but Deluxe has all the forms required and will still walk you through all of it.

Note that Turbotax Online is completely different, Deluxe Online is purposely limited forcing more complex returns to use the more expenisve Online versions than Deluxe.

Friendly reminder that this now requires Windows 11 and unfortunately will not work on Windows 10.

Or just do freetaxusa and get the same experience on the web for free. I think state is like $15 if you want to do that through them too

Reading this thread pretty much convinced me to go with the Deluxe version. Does anybody know the exact cost of upgrading from within the desktop application from Deluxe to Premier in case I need it? Google says the cost is equal to the difference, but difference on which offer?

$10 in product credit applies to an addon when filing your taxes such as Life tax advice, state tax e-file fee, extra state product, product upgrade or audit defense.
For example, if you e-file your state tax return, it usually costs $25, but with the $10 in product credit, it is only $15.

Would like to know the same. I took a look at on Amazon, Intuit, etc but Costco's Current price of $82.99 is the cheapest among big box stores.

I did find this for $59.99 (EDIT - The below site is not an authorized reseller, so I don't recommend)

If you are talking about TT desktop/download version then Deluxe will handle stocks and Schedule K-1 forms.

I feel sorry for all these people including myself who have purchased TT. When you go to efile, you will find that there is an audit defense upcharge of $45 that is sneakily added if you arent careful and impossible to remove. I have just spent 2 hours trying unsuccessfully to get it removed. Search for "audit defense upcharge turbotax" and see all the threads. This is the last year I will use II because of this absurd upcharge,

I've declined it every year. I haven't started my taxes yet since I'm waiting on 1099s. Does it still ask early in the process whether you want audit defense?

Yes. It turns out in my case, I cannot decline it. I have TT Advantage and it automatically enables it regardless whether you want it or not. The only way not to use it would be to submit paper returns. I spent 2 hours on the phone and online with a level 2 tech from TT. The final workaround was I was given a different TT license without Advantage. Then I could decline it. It was frustrating because I did not select audit defense, and when I went to pay my state by CC, it automatically enabled audit defense without ever asking me if I wanted it. If I was generous I would call it a bug, if I wasnt, I would say it was sleazy/illegal.

Thanks for the explanation. I have never heard of TT Advantage. So you get Audit Defense & other perks free as part of the package. That makes sense why you can't remove it.

It doesnt make sense. 1) It is free only for the first return 2) By accepting audit defense, it allows TT to send your tax information to a third party. I dont want to be sending my tax return to a company I never heard of and know nothing about, even if it is free. Lots of places would like to get copies of your tax return for free! It has to do with privacy and release of personal information. When you sign up for TT Advantage, they dont say that you cannot opt out of Audit defense and they dont say that your tax info will be sent to a third party. That is deceptive.
