Its not for this type of Hotel in Bangkok or the other major tourist-type towns (Chiang Mai, Phuket, Krabi etc...). If you go pretty much anywhere else, you can get pretty great accommodations for $100 a night and good enough accommodations for $40.

I live in Japan 6 months a year, and we go to Thailand 2 times a year for 1 month when I am there. It matters where you go. Yes, if you go to Pattaya, it's mostly clubs and bars with tons of old European and American guys, but there's so much to see there outside of that. It's a very beautiful country with super good food and ancient history to see. I recommend going north to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai. worship
