psa for complete idiots like myself. Last time the RMx shift was on sale, I was in need of a higher power PSU, saw it had great reviews and was an "S" tier unit, so I just bought it.

When I finally went to install I realized SHIFT actually means > the cables are shifted to the side. I was able to do some modifications to my case to make it work, but if I had known I would have just gotten the non-shift version.

Another PSA regarding Corsair PSUs. They do not manufacture the PSUs they sell. They are rebadged from *multiple* different OEMs. Some of these OEMs are quite decent. But some are quite horrible.

Sometimes Corsair will even use the same part number for different PSUs coming from different OEMs.

Please do your research before buying.

Any concerns over the length and routing of video cables with cards getting longer? Also, would narrower cases 'pinch' these cables to make it a pain to route them?

was ready to buy until I saw the connector layout.

The connectors are moved to the side instead of being across from the power plug.

Might be tight in some/most applications.

side cabling is really designed for specific types of cases in mind. For me it wouldn't work out.

Also, not seeing 12vhpwr cable for modern high end GPUs. OTOH 750w probably isn't enough for anything that needs it anyway. RTX 5070 and above the bare minimum is 750w and you should probably aim higher.

It has a 12VHPWR -> 2xPCI-E cable. I've already done a build with this PSU (9800X3D + 5070Ti), but yes if you have a narrow side panel it may be tight when the cables go up against the side panel.

Thanks for confirming. I am considering something around a 5070ti or even lower. I am on a budget so I can't go crazy, but glad to know this PSU can handle options.

Yeah. As others have noted this is not a standard power supply and moves the connectors to what would normally be the side of the PSU. Pay close attention to this and how it works with your case. It might not work well or at all depending on your case. Looks like this would work well in my Cool Master Qube 500 as it would make clearance for the PSU and long GPUs much better without having to worry about cables routing out the bottom of the PSU. Not the best looks wise as the cables would be coming out the side of the PSU facing the side panel. You couldn't really mount it the other way without physically cutting the case as it's solid metal going the other way.

This is true for almost all retail PSU brands. There are only like 5 companies globally that manufacturer PC power supplies. The brand (Corsair) typically has as much to do with the quality of the unit as the ODM (essentially the factory), so do not assume that the brand doesn't mean anything. They still have engineers on staff that develop design goals and require certain features, and there are QA processes either developed by or approved by the brand. And the brand still warrants their products (some better than others).

FYI this is how most manufacturing works. Ford doesn't directly create even 1/100 of the parts in any vehicle with their logo on it. NASA doesn't manufacture any space craft. Militaries don't manufacture any tanks or planes. All of it is done through contracts with dozens, hundreds, sometimes thousands of suppliers for a single product.

Corsair, in general, sells high quality units at whatever designated tier/price, and their warranty service is about as good as any company out there.

RTX 5070 minimun recommended is 650 watts and thats plenty. With an 5800x and a 5070, along with an 280mm AIO, 1 nvme, 1 ssd, 1 optical drive, and 1 20tb HDD my system's max pull is 375 watts.
