The only thing heavy duty about it is a metal frame body. Very cheap unit overall, not worth it even at the lower price. There are better machines out there

Janome mystyle
burnette b35

The singer brand overall is more for the people that may sew every once in a while. Unless you get into quite a bit more money, I would look at janome, burnette, brother or juki.
If you ever are at a yard sale and see an older singer model (from your grandparents time) then buy it. They are usually worth the effort involved in refurbishing them as they were built to last.
I would expect this unit to break down frequently and it is just not worth fixing once that happens (throw away model)

Made most of my own clothes in the 60's and early 70's on Singer machines. Made my own wedding dress and vail. Traded up to a top of the line Pfaff in 1975. I believe I paid $400. Last things I did was sew velcro on canvas panels for my son's Burning Man dome a decafde ago, and put new binding on a 40 year old electric blanket. If anyone lives in Las Vegas, I'm ready to part with the machine. I also have several yards of wool tartan I bought in Scotland in 1970 and never got around to using.
If I was around the area I would totally take you up on that offer. Hope those machines gave you decades of love, memories, and great clothes. This Internet stranger hopes this finds you in good health and surrounded by love.
