If I recall correctly, there is typically a hollow space in the wall that pulls air in from the bottom on the outside and allows it to escape near the top towards the fire. The fire heats the inner wall of the hollow space which in turn heats the air. When the hot air hits the hot smoke, magic happens! Lol I can't remember if it causes a second combustion in the ash to burn away the smoke or just carries it up and away faster. I do know these typically burn wood much faster, so there must be increased heat.

While I never knew the scientific reason to this level of understanding, it does sound right and is roughly my understanding. The drawback is that since the heat is directed upward to minimize smoke, it ends up not directing much heat to those trying to enjoy the fire. So you get the fire experience without the warmth.

I got this off of Amazon for like 90ish I think a few weeks ago. Pretty solid solo stove duplicate. I recommend it. Collapses nice and small.

I have a similar model I bought a few years back that has an identical carrying bag, so I assume they collapse the same way. Anyway, having a fire pit that doesn't produce any smelly smoke while it's burning means we use it all the time. It's pretty nice to have around.

Could someone explain the scientific reasoning behind how these burn smokeless?

Or as the marketing team would say, "It's great for enjoying a fire in warmer weather"

Which is why many manufacturers, such as solo stove, sell heat deflectors. Or you can buy/ DIY a universal one.

It is called 'secondary burn'. Air routed around the flames, heats up, then mixed with the escaping smoke causing whatever unburn particles left to burn. If working correctly (meaning using dry hard wood) you will see dancing flames coming from nowhere around areas where air escapes the sleeves. Supposed to generate up to 50% more heat by burning material that would have otherwise escape in form of smoke. I have wood stove like that.

Looks like a sweet deal! Like a solo stove, but mesh design might let more heat escape the sides. Which size Solo Stove does this duplicate?

Have one and can't compare with other brands but works well. Smokeless with one of those easy quick fire logs. Controlled smoke with mild wet fire logs. The only thing that gets hot is the top lip. The side wall with holes are actually warm to touch with fire inside. Fun times with family and smores!

I was thinking the same thing, I'm not sure how it can be smokeless if the walls are mesh. I might be missing something about how these work...

Lots of complaints that the diameter is smaller than advertised.
