Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

Whew mine shipped today and it's now activated. Thanks!
How can you get it activated without having the phone in your possession? Oh nevermind, I found it under Straight Talk account -> Manage Lines & Devices. My phone is activated and it says 28 days left, renew by February 11, 2026. Looks like I might have gotten in before the new unlocking policy.

However, there are no signs that the new policy is in effect yet. This page [tfwunlockpolicy.com] still show 60 days.

Nope. Mine didn't even get the Dec security update until a few days ago.
Motorola is notorious for slow updates.
What effing luck I have. After usually just doing the one year Tracfone deals, I decided to do this one to upgrade my bugging phone after 60days. Oh well.
If this is one year after activation , does that mean I only have to pay for one month then wait till next year, or it means we have to pay for 12 months of service to get it unlocked?

The policy is enforced at time of requesting unlock it will changed in next 60 days most likely 6-12 months of active paid service. Same as back in April 2025 when people couldn't get previous Straight talk phones unlocked without paying for extra month.

Verizon hasn't officially updated their unlock policy yet, but it's likely they will soon. The press release references CITA rules, which could mean a year-long wait for unlocking after devices are paid off. The final revision remains unclear.

The FCC decision said it'll apply to phones ACTIVATED after the order is posted.

Thanks. I think I will not risk buying the second month since it will arrive and be activated today. This will be a wifi device, or if I can rebrnd and apply a 1yr Tracfone plan.

Yep the current ruling party is letting big business get away with more so if you want deals like this better jump on them quickly and also activate as soon as you get to lock in the 60 days.

Yeah as long as you've activated before the policy changes on their website you'll be fine.

"The terms of this waiver apply to all handsets that become active on Verizon's network beginning the day after the release date of this Order," the FCC ruling said.

If I understand this correctly, Verizon has a legal right to apply new unlock policy to any phone activated from today on.
