Sadly just yesterday it was announced that the FCC has granted Verizon waiver so as of today any purchases moving forward they will no longer have to adhere to the 60-day policy. And there was no restrictions at all as far as I could see I don't know if it's going to be 12 months concurrent or what.

But unless you plan on using visible or straight talk or whatever for 12 months these deals are basically dead in the water now. Or unless you plan on using them as a Wi-Fi only device which I suppose could be practical for these Motorola phones since they have headphone jacks and SD cards.

So I mean you could do worse than a Moto G stylus 2025 as a music player but. ... Just terrible he depressing anti-consumer news again from the current FCC

It's too late as of today Verizon no longer has to do the 60 day unlocking because they were giving away her from the current FCC. I mean I'm sure word will get around on these comments sections but I do wonder what's going to happen to edge cases people that bought a phone a week ago or two weeks ago or whatever. Anecdotally I can say my Moto G Stylus 2025 that I bought in November seems to have been automatically unlocked in the sense that when I switched my infamobile SIM card over it still works. So far anyway.

But boy I mean I bought that maybe 80 days ago. I don't know what happens to people that bought a phone a week ago or yesterday. I don't know if the grandfathering in of the 60 day is the date of purchase or the date of activation or the date of delivery.

The worst part is the FCC didn't give them any restrictions at all so far as I could tell in the judgment. It wasn't like 60 days isn't going to work but no more than 180 days or no more than 120 days. Just a complete placating to the telecom industry.

For folks that have rebranded this phone to Tracfone, is the best practice to do the rebranding on the last day of a valid Straight Talk plan or the day after (day 31)? Mostly trying to make sure I land on having 60 days and not 59 or less.
Since policy has changed how do you know it will still unlock at 60 days if you change the original provider and rebrand to TF now?
Technically the phone will have to be deactivated and reactivated between the 2 providers (even though they're both VZ Value). What if that rebrand/reactivation restarts the unlock clock and 60 days becomes 12 months? Do you really trust Verizon that much? I don't, so I paid for 2nd month of service this morning (& it was $3 cheaper for me to reload direct from Walmart since they charged less in tax/fees).
At least this way I know it will unlock in 30 days.

I'm going to do that too. Did you switch to the Bronze $35.00 plan?

Yep. Takes less than 5 minutes to add it from WM website.

Thanks, one final question. Did you change your ST plan on their site before reloading from Walmart?

There is no reason to. Straight Talk is month to month and plan can be changed at any time.
Just purchase from WM, they ask what phone number to apply it to and right away your plan is added for another month. Couldn't be easier.

I have a Verizon Prepaid phone too and they've always locked me into a plan and I have to contact them (or online) if I want to change. Weird how they always tell me my current plan no longer exists and if I change, I can't go back to that plan. So if I had a $45 plan with Verizon and only entered a Pin for $35, not sure what they would do. Straight Talk must be different. Thanks!

Straight Talk, Total Wireless and Tracfone are not the same as Verizon Prepaid, they're part of "Verizon Value". They may be owned by Verizon but have their own separate policies and plans.

Just so we are all clear...since the new unlock policy took effect January 21, there is currently no way to unlock the phone without paying for 12 months of service, and cheaper Tracphone 12-month plans do not count...

Is this correct?

Correct on the paid 12 months unlock policy.
No one knows yet if a cheaper TF plan might work, new policy just went into effect so it's a gamble.

Good deal but the bad news Straight Talk requires 365 days of paid, active service for device unlocking. The phone must be active, in good standing, and not reported lost or stolen. Military personnel with deployment papers may be exempt from the 365-day requirement.

Just an update for those of you (like me) with locked brick phones. I now know of 2 Verizon MVNOs that will NOT work. Infinimobile confirmed no good. US Mobile Warp (Verizon service) confirmed no good. I just tried Warp today. Visible is confirmed to work on the locked Stylus 2025. I personally tried it last week and also read from other users that it works. If anyone else knows of any other MVNOs that are confirmed to not work or work, please post your results. Thanks!
Why waste your time and waste the time of SD readers here? Any Tracfone family of brands meaning prepaid that are owned and operated by Verizon will work. If you have a new or active sim. If you have a Tracfone BYOD sim (new) it will work on Tracfone and you do not have to rebrand the phone. Visible is owned by Verizon, it will work.

The Moto 5G Stylus 2025 will work on Tracfone, Straight Talk, Simple Mobile, Total Wireless, Walmart Family Mobile, SafeLink, Net10 Wireless and Page Plus if those last two still exist.

It's best to remove a device from Straight Talk in the app before activating on another Tracfone brand carrier. Then resume service on the above list. I expect reps for this information.

Question I ordered this and selling one of the phones, I didn't see any cards in the box for the first free month of service how does that work? Is it tied to the imei of the phone?

I called Moto today about Android 15 update breaking USB tethering. I had to speak with 4 different agents (presumably in India) before one was able to grasp simple concepts without me re-explain the problem 3-5 times. The last tech I spoke with seemed to understand and told me he'd report the issue to the developers, but further conversation left me wondering if he did. He went off on a tangent that Android 16 was planned in the future and to wait to see if that fixed the issue. Then I had to explain to him how Android version updates historically broke USB tethering across multiple platforms of Moto phones. I have zero confidence in their tech support. But as mentioned by Senor-O-Brien, historically, they eventually repaired the broken USB tethering option during previous updates, after android version upgrades broke the option.
As an aside, I read somewhere there is an option in developer settings to prevent system updates from automatically loading. I haven't verified that yet.
FWIW mine got the android 16 update today, you can try and see if fixed on that.
