Lithium (AAA and AA) batteries are a bit overrated. Sure they work better in the cold than alkaline and run a little bit longer but does that justify a huge premium, especially when they're still disposable batteries? My answer is no.

Eneloops are waaaaaaaay more versatile and a much, much better value for your hard earned dollars. Sure these store longer and will drain all the way down to empty in colder temps but these are also disposable, that's money in the trash. I've used them before in my Blink cameras, I would have to replace them far too often and guess where they go? 🗑

Lithium cells have more specific uses. Eneloops are great (I own well over a hundred) but some devices need 1.5 volts per cell or just won't work. Also, lithium lasts longer, store longer and are lighter weight. Good uses for lithium cells are powering devices on multi day hikes, devices in hard to reach areas, cold weather (as you mentioned), seldom used devices since they hold their power for years and won't leak, etc.

FWIW, they weren't placed directly next to the Duracell and Kirkland batteries which are usually on an endcap. They were placed further down the aisle alongside some other stuff - I think there were some lighting products in between the usual aforementioned batteries and these lithiums.
I just went back to the same Costco (Simi Valley, CA) 2 days ago and noticed they still had A LOT left. Got my price adjustment too ($20 back). Thanks for the heads-up timjohn!!!
