Had to dig through the reviews, but it seems like it's plastic.

"unit is super plastic and cheap feeling not metal like the competition"

"I was a little surprised when I opened the box and found that the case was plastic instead of metal"

"Is extremely light to the point it almost feels like an empty plastic box."

"It's a small and very light little plastic box"

"gave it 4 stars as the case looks metal in the pics but is plastic"

That should literally be impossible for a non-managed switch like this. It doesn't have a MAC address and doesn't get an IP address assigned. Without those it's impossible to send out requests. Not to mention that piHole wouldn't be involved in a request to a IP as you wouldn't be doing a DNS lookup. To see a connection going out to a random IP you'd need to see that on your router/firewall. Not a piHole.

I prefer 8 port hubs at least. 5 port switch fill up so quickly. You are really only adding 3 additional ports because you use 1 port to connect up stream and 1 port to connect the device that could have been directly connected without the switch. Works okay if you never need more but also pretty easy to fill up.

TP Link has an 8 port on amazon for $17 and if you don't mind a generic brand there's a $13 managed switch. I know the TP-Link is double the cost but it's also still less than $10 difference.

Hard to stuff spyware in this. Not impossible, but, if you're worried about that, there's multiple agencies hiring right now.

In for a few to offer to clients.

I think it's a good deal except for the plastic case. But let's be real we aren't in 70s. Also, it's ideal for anyone who needs to expand their network and keeps it in a closet or basement and forget about it(with an external fan)

Note the 1 Gps connection needs to share among the other ports.

I literally just installed this at my parents an hour ago. Small device. No setup required. Got 500mbps to their PC which was wifi before and not getting a good signal. Now printer is wired too and working correctly.

I paid $13 before Xmas for it

This keeps sending out request to some random IP in the Philippines. Noticed via pihole. Instant return

Eh sometimes you just need the smallest possible box. Sometime I get 5 port sometimes 8 port, right tool for the right job.

I had this the last slick deal and it's definitely plastic. But I don't mind it for 5 ports. It's not going to be in a mission critical set up for me. Probably good for a small homelab setup 😬
