The ASUS Prime RTX 5070 is being treated as a solid 1440p upgrade, especially for swapping into an existing PC for a big jump over cards like the 2070 Super. It is also described as running cool in normal play, with the ASUS Prime cooler drawing praise for better thermals. The main hesitation is the 12GB of VRAM, which feels tight for some newer games and makes the card less compelling next to 16GB alternatives like the RX 9070 or 9070 XT. Pricing also looks only slightly below MSRP, with several nearby retailers and Micro Center offering similar or lower numbers.

Common Questions (4)

  • It is a decent price for a brand-new Amazon card, but it is only about $10 under MSRP and several retailers have had similar pricing. Micro Center has been mentioned at $499, and some shoppers would rather spend a bit more for a 16GB RX 9070 or 9070 XT instead.

  • Yes, it is generally a solid 1440p card and 12GB is enough for most 1440p or lower use cases. It can still run into VRAM limits in some newer AAA games with max settings, especially path tracing or "supreme" presets, where settings may need to be reduced.

  • Yes, you can swap the GPU into an existing AM4 PC without rebuilding the whole system. A 5000-series AM4 CPU should not bottleneck a 5070 much, so many users can upgrade the video card first and delay a full platform change.

  • It is reported to run cool in normal use and only gets warm in newer AAA games at max settings. One owner also added a backplate heatsink and thermal padding to the ASUS PRIME model's cutout area and saw temperatures drop by 5+°C.

HUB Video today confirmed with Asus EOL status for all the 16GB cards (5070 Ti and 5060 Ti). 5070 12G is already being priced 20% higher for future orders. If you "need" a GPU, this is probably the calm before the storm if you missed the holiday sales (really just MSRP + discounts using PayPal deal).

Unfortunately, I doubt AMD will be immune to AI demand for PC parts either. They'll eventually do something similar to this, I'm sure.
They already are. It was announced at CES

The 5070 is faster and has a full PCIe interface. The 5060 Ti 16GB has more VRAM.

I think for most gaming applications, the 5070 is a better choice unless you are highly VRAM dependent. You are getting substantially more raw performance. While 16GB is certainly preferable to 12, 12 is enough for most use cases at 1440p or lower.

You will have to compromise with the 12gb vram...

Games like Indiana Jones need vram and will crash if you use 1440p supreme settings and have path tracing....you can turn that off of course or turn down settings but knowing your new gpu crashes on today's game is not a good sign for tomorrow.

nvidia just announced they're halting production of 5060 & 5070 due to memory shortages, so if you're in the market for one, I'd buy it right now.

Yeah noob question, so to do a new build, buying this would force me to AM5 meaning I have to get super expensive RAM correct?Right now still on AM4 with a 2070 Super
You'll be fine with ddr4 especially the closer to 3600 cl16 you get

Not a bad card for 1440p gaming, but this is the price drop to blow stock as the next iteration of cards is about to come out with the "super" branding attached. Prices may drop a little further when that happens.
They delayed the supers indefinitely

The reality is scalpers with bots are soaking up all the 5090s like last year during launch and now they're doing the same to 5070 Ti due to the news. The 5070 with 12GB of VRAM sits in a weird spot, everyone wants a 16GB card at the midrange tier. The only option left is a 9070 or 9070XT and even those are starting to climb in pricing. The last real sane pricing was the holiday season last year.

Yeah. People don't realize the presidents of NVIDIA and AMD are related. They're all conspiring together to do this crap. The 9070 XT will be over $1000 by the end of the year. Sucks too, because aside from the VRAM and performance in older games, I've been thoroughly unimpressed with the 9070 XT Challenger I bought. My old 4070 Ti rig outperforms it in many situations, especially ray tracing. I bought a PNY 5080 from Micro Center last month for $900 and I think that might be my forever card this gen lol. I could never justify getting a **90 card, but I see the appeal.

Yes, there are certainly compromises to be made. However, if the alternative is a 5060 Ti 16GB, you will be making compromises anyway. Between those 2 cards, I think most people would make less compromises with the 5070 even though it has less VRAM. The 5060 Ti isn't going to be supporting max settings on the latest AAA games at 1440p in many cases no matter how much VRAM it has.

The sad part is if you do find the justification for a 90 series, you can't even get one through retail channels only scalper ones. I know a person who works for one of the AIBs, their company just ordered their internal departments to halt all vga shipments until they sort through the new Nvidia price hikes. That may also be the reason why we are seeing the shortages at retailers for certain models.

Actually you can max everything with 5060ti due to the 16gb vram...the issue is if you're content with the 50-60fps (average without framegen).

The 5070 would have had better fps no doubt but it will crash if you do supreme+path tracing @1440p as stated due to the 12gb vram.

For comparison, without path tracing its 77 vs 97 fps at these settings so of course if you keep settings down under 12gb vram usage the 5070 is better but if you go beyond it might crash...

imagine trusting HUB as a credible source.

Dude at Micro Center said he would not be surprised if basic 5070's were selling for $900 come summer once people see no new GPU's on the horizon and the memory shortage pinching things even more
