This BalanceFrom lat pulldown and low row attachment turns a compatible cage into a basic high and low pulley setup for pulldowns, rows, curls, and pushdowns. The price is the big draw, and the unit is described as functional, reasonably smooth, and sturdy enough for regular home use. Fit and included parts are the main headaches, with reports of missing safety bars, awkward accessory sizing, and some bent pieces. Installation is straightforward but can be fiddly, so it feels like a practical add on if the cage match is right.

Common Questions (5)

  • The safety bars are inconsistent: some units arrive with them, while multiple reports say they are missing. If they are absent, Walmart has reportedly refunded part or all of the purchase in some cases.

  • It is described as functional and sturdy for normal home-gym use, with smooth operation and daily use reported without issues. The main caveat is that the rack is not aimed at extreme heavy squatting or advanced powerlifting loads.

  • Fitment is rack-specific. It attaches to the BalanceFrom model's ground bar and may fit some branded cages, but it will not work on racks that lack that bar, and the 2.35-inch hole spacing can make accessory sizing awkward.

  • It is a high/low pulley system for lat pulldowns, rows, tricep pushdowns, and cable curls using a single cable. It is not a true cable crossover attachment.

  • Installation is straightforward, but it can be awkward because you need access to the top and bottom of a tall rack and may need to pull the cage away from the wall. One report put the install at about 30 minutes with basic tools.

I have heard others also reporting it does not come with the safety bars, but I just received mine yesterday and they had them.
I ordered mine about 6 months ago during a similar deal and it did not include them. So I complained to walmart and they essentially refunded the whole product and I got to keep it... I did then spend $50 on safety bars though.

Received the cage a couple days ago, mine did not come with the safety bars, looks like others did come with them, so ymmv. Still happy with my purchase, cage is sturdy, took about an hour to assemble. Was hoping the lat pulldown attachment would come on sale, just bought it.
Complain to Walmart, they are likely to refund part or all of the purchase (I know because I did this). Since the product pictures clearly shows them, you obviously have the expectation they would be included.

no, it specifically attaches to a bar present across the ground on the balancefrom model that is not present on that fit reality.

I would like to also add that the weight plate holders on the product page, did not fit. It was too small as some reviews pointed out.

It's easy enough. It's kind of a pain in the ass in that you're installing a tall thing on another big bulky thing, so if you don't have easy access to the top/bottom, or if your current cage is pushed right against the wall (which you'll need to pull out), etc.... but the actual install itself is pretty straightforward. Maybe take you 30 minutes, with a wrench in one hand and a beer in the other.
Awesome to know, thanks. Looking forward to it now

When this was on sale about a year ago, lots of SD'ers bought it. None of us received the safety bars, but it was still well worth the price. This rack is a step up from the 2x2" racks, and probably more secure and better than some of the 2x3" racks. This rack has 2.35x2.35" uprights (which does make accessories tougher to find). I have the lat pulldown attachment and have used the rack for dozens of workouts (would be more but I travel a lot for work). Never an issue, and the included j-hooks easily handle over 300 pounds, and I do weighted pull-ups on this (my weight plus added weight is 300 pounds), and no issues. I do have weight plate holders on the back of the rack. This rack is a steal at $100.
Can you source 60mm x 60mm metric attachment to it from Aliexpress or Temu or Shein?

I did too, returning the first one (thankfully still unopened) to the store and ordered another one just now.

Is that right? I actually ordered this thing about ten days weeks ago, and it still hasn't been sent out. I'm not sure whether to keep it or cancel the order and find something more substantial with a functional trainer.
You can always return to the store if that's the case. I've got mine but it's still unopened (thankfully, lat pulldown is going back with a second ordered at >$40 savings with tax!)

I'm returning it, too. I have Walmart+, so they'll pick it up at my house. I actually called customer service and asked for a price adjustment. They said no. I told them I'd return it then. They said go ahead. So that's what I'll do. I'll get the same deal, and it'll cost Walmart $100(?). It could have been free...

This might actually be a good price for the steel alone and then use the steel for other projects...
..thought this also so I got a couple of the $100 cages recently. Have enough retrofits around garage/basement that this works and is cheaper than HD etc pricing

I have this. It's perfectly functional. Reasonably smooth. The rack is fine too unless you're squatting 500lbs or whatever.

Bro, it's a $99 cage with a $58 lat pulldown / low row attachment!!! Do you lift more than 1,000 lbs?
The bigger issues with this rack are:
1 - They do NOT come with safety bars. They used to. The safety bars are still in the photos, but they are NOT included.
2 - They do not come with weight plate storage horns, which most people need.
3 - It's a metric rack, not compatible with standard 1"x1" rack attachments, so it's hard(er) to source accessories.
Considering all that, I personally prefer the Mikolo rack with its lat pulldown attachment that is on sale at Walmart. The price fluctuates between $299 and $330 for that rack. It comes with lower gauge (= thicker) steel, a ton of attachments, reportedly standard 1"x1" uprights, with 1" holes spaced 2" apart. (Reportedly. Many youtubers will call 50mm 2 inches, which it is not.)
But for $158 for the rack + lat pulldown / low row attachment, you can't beat this deal if that is all you need.
Thanks for the insight, looking at the Mikolo on Walmart, it says it is 14 gauge whereas the Balancefrom is 11 gauge. I am looking at https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mikolo.../800851001

Is there another one I should be checking instead ?

You are looking at the right Mikolo. (I quite like the folding one as well actually. That's a great design. It opens wide, which is great for its functional trainer.)
Watch some YouTube reviews. Manufacturers unfortunately lie about the gauge of steel they use. The only part that's 11 gauge is some of the connecting corner pieces, NOT the uprights. The uprights are much thinner steel. Technically, the BalanceFrom's uprights are not 1"x1", but rather 60mmx60mm. So the steel tubes can be of thinner steel for the same load capacity. The BalanceFrom is not the highest capacity rack. I don't think that's a big deal unless you are an advanced bodybuilder or power lifter. I know I will never reach its limits as lifting weights is not my fulltime job. At my age, my tendons and ligaments don't like it if I go higher than 1.5x my bodyweight.
I like the Mikolo more because it comes with a bunch of attachments (e.g. 4 weight horns, pad that hold you down while doing lat pulldowns, safety pins, pegs for rubber bands, handles for lat pulldown, T-bar row handle, landmine attachment) that I actually need.
