This is a nicely spec'd PC for this price. It will play all the latest games and it's got a 240 hz OLED 1440p screen. at 28560x1600 resolution many games are going to get into the hundreds of frame per second with a 5070ti GPU, essp if you don't turn the graphics to max. Intel core ultra 9 275HX CPU, and 32GB DDR5-6400 RAM. a 16" 1440p OLED panel is going to look gorgeous and that 240hz refresh rate means you can actually display all those frames your GPU is generating. This would be a good choice for competitive gaming such a counterstrike 2.

I gotta say if you're looking for a gaming rig this is a really good deal. Especially with desktop GPUs and RAM being so astronomical right now. The 5070ti mobile is roughly about 5% faster than a 5060ti deskop GPU and you get 12GB of VRAM instead of 8gb. The 5060ti desktop runs about $400, the RAM is like $400, an equivalent CPU would be a few hundred bucks. I don't know, seems like a good deal to me. Laptops are looking like a good option right now with desktops being so expensive.

What's the battery life on normal usage without gaming? I'm needing a laptop for school, and work.

And gaming? Because if it's not "and gaming" don't get a gaming laptop unless you have some very specific school/work needs.

I ordered this the Wednesday and it still hasn't shipped...

I did look at it at best buy and the screen looked great and the overall size seemed very reasonable. The specs look awesome for it, but the GPU is thermal limited and the battery life sucks. Most say only about 3.5-4.5 hours non-gaming. I realize it's a HX line processor so it will drain faster. I don't know if it's fixed or not, but a lot of reports said the monitor was stuck at 240hz and couldn't be changed so that also drained the battery faster than it should have.

The non-s is also thicker and heavier of course.

S (this) .79x14.05x10.85 @ 5.07lbs
Non-S 1.3x14x10.9 @ 5.5lbs

There's always going to be trade offs.

The other thing I don't like about this vs other "Slim" 16" gaming laptops is the screen isn't the full size of the footprint of the computer, the computer extends about 3/4" or something beyond the screen size. Where many others are the size of the screen. So if you compare the footprint of this vs something like the Razor Blade 16 that is .69x13.98x9.86 @ 4.71lbs (so 10.85" vs 9.86"). The price difference is significant though.

I know there has been some hate on this one, but I have had this exact one since it first went on refurb in August. It has been great. RAM wasn't crazy expensive, so I bumped it up to 64GB, and flashed the GPU to a higher wattage. It has given me zero issues. But yeah, this is a gaming laptop, no one should be complaining about battery life on those. They are meant to be plugged in most of the time.

I have this exact laptop from black friday time. Heres my experience.

It did not come in pristine condition. It didnt have a factory new anything
Its just a step up from Used repackaged

there was mild denting, think of getting the backside of a butter knife and hitting the edges of laptop to create a dent. I had that in a couple places.

Battery life is not good. even with just basic browsing. like 2-3 hours.
With basic use you can use USB-C charging and it will maintain or gain power. during gaming no
In fact I like to just plug it into a usb-C in between uses to top it off.

The screen is WONDERFUL. Its bright and OLED gives it great color and deep blacks.
but the screen is STUCK at 240hz so that contributes to the battery drain.

Track pad pretty good. the num pad has awkward 0 and + key sizes but I still use it

With general use the laptop is quiet.

If i had to do it all over again, id still get this laptop for its value and use case scenario

What would I pay a little more for? Better battery life and better num pad layout

You can swap the vbios. Install the non s vbios. Folks have done this with success.

Acer refurbished is surprisingly bad in terms of quality and they're pretty shady to deal with when you need to return because the product was in worse condition than described.
