Great deal. Fine print shows it includes the $10 credit for state filing like Costco. I purchased, so now I can go to bed, and I don't have to wait for Costco or Amazon to wake-up.
If you're locked "Intuit" (see what I/they did there?), then pay the piper, but other safe, easy (and even more free direct file) alternatives to TurboTax exist. Maybe saving $30 isn't worth it to you to have to type things in fresh for one year, inertia in a chaotic world is a barrier for sure. Just remember Intuit has repeatedly and exhaustively lobbied to keep the government from removing their past near-monopoly by trying to prevent the IRS from releasing effective, free direct file online.
I recommend freetaxusa.com, been using it for 10+ years. Free federal, state is ~$15. If you want deluxe everything you might pay 30-$40 for unlimited corrections/re-filings/etc.

Most other apps will let you load last years taxes to get started.
What is the difference between this TurboTax Federal + State for $45 and the H&R Block Federal + State for $25?
(Don't come in with the "but with xyz site it's FrReEEee")
TurboTax state e-file fee is $25, H&R Block's is $20. Otherwise, they are generally pretty similar quality currently, but that hasn't always been a given, particularly for the state portion. I suspect low population states are where the significant difference resides.

I guess my question is why there is a $20 difference if they are generally the same and both come with e-files.

This is what I have observed , I have been flipping between HR Block and Turbo Tax . I see Turbo Tax has more partnerships to import tax information from for 1099.

I'm not a tax expert but I can share my own experience fwiw.
The tax year my wife and I got married she also moved here from out of state. I bought the H&R Block software that year (it's cheaper) and found out it couldn't handle my wife and I married filing jointly, from two different states. My wife just had it prepared at a H&R b&m and no refund/credit was able to be given from the b&m for the inadequate software.
Can the H&R software handle that situation today? Would TurboTax have been able to handle that situation then? I don't know, but I've never had a problem using the TurboTax software and if I could go back, I would've used that instead.

In my experience, TurboTax is a little more refined and handles more odd situations correctly. It's Windows 11 only now FWIW. Of course, the actual reason for the higher price is that people are willing to pay more for it, likely based on name recognition. I think TT has at least 60% of the market with block around 20%, according to a quick google search.
