This is titanium case and bracelet and sapphire glass.
Not saying that's what his is doing, but that's one way to tell. I had a Timex do that for two years before finally dying lol, I guess it's not an exact science.

But it seems like a wild guess to say a watch has plenty of life left simply because the ticking is still strong. How can you be sure it wont start ticking strangely tomorrow? Next month?

I've had Eco Drive watches for many years, and they do that when I wear one and leave the other one in a drawer for a while. Leave it in the sunlight face-up for an hour or two and see if it gets better. If not, you really may need to replace the watch (or the rechargeable battery if feasible).
