Yes, get MIPs...
(*also, before anyone craps on me, yes, there are 5/5 star helmets that are cheaper than these, but that actually factors into the rating, so to get this helmet on sale is a win, IMO)

Price does not factor into the VT Helmet labs safety rating at all.
Higher star rating means a safer helmet. That's it. It does not factor in price at all.
I would consider the tecta race @ $80. If the name brand and aesthetics of the helmet matter to you, I'd consider it. But there are better, safer helmets out there for cheaper. I rock a specialized tactic 4 that I got for 50 bucks back when they were on sale. It was a top 10 safest helmet when I got it. Some people dislike the way it looks though.
